Projecting Joey as an early draft candidate is premature.  This seems like typical rose colored glasses fandom.

Sure, he could blow up and turn pro after 2-3 years.  I think it is unlikely due to his limited length and athleticism.

The mismatches Joey gets in college will disappear in the NBA.  Let's see Joey matchup with other NBA prospects before anointing him.  I still think he profiles as a Kyle Singler type.  Singler was a 4 year player at Duke, was drafted early in the second round, and carved out a nice career as a backup.

Agreed.  Joey seems to like the the kind of guy that can be a fantastic college player (maybe even All American type), but not necessarily an NBA rotation guy.  I am sure he'll play some in the NBA, but I don't see him leaving early quite yet.  He's a little slow with the feet.  Isn't exactly a banger PF type, and not nearly quick enough to guard NBA 3s.

Very very good college player that could go down as one of MU's all time greats, but I think the talk about him leaving after his sophomore year is a very premature.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I think if you look at my history (not that I'd expect you to bother wasting your time doing so), you'd realize I am not much for "rose colored glasses fandom" on these situations. Indeed, the opposite is usually the case; my initial reaction usually is, "I'm not sure this guy can be a pro."

With Joey, it comes down to this for me: If he can prove he can consistently hit the NBA 3 -- whether in MU games or at workouts for pro teams or at a combine (or all of the above) -- there is a huge demand for taller guys who can hit the 3 and do most other things decently (if not great).

If so, and I think there's a better than 50/50 chance that it is so, he is a better version of Henry.

If not, maybe you're right and he is the next Kyle Singler: a 4-year college starter and future multiple-year NBA player. That's not half-bad for Joey, and it actually would be ideal for us Marquette fans.

Joey has zero hops, limited quickness, and questionable strength.  Now in 2 years of being in the weight room, all those might change.  But not now.  He is more
advanced then Sam at the same age but still along way away from the NBA.  But he has a chance.  Time will tell.  Poor mans Larry Bird.

I am seldom mentioned in regards to wearing rose colored glasses. While I very much enjoyed Henry E. play his one season at MU, IMO Joey is far better NBA prospect. Over the last couple of weeks I have talked to guys who know ball well and all feel JH is big time NBA prospect.

I like Joey much better than Henry.  Henry benefited from a weak draft, and projected upside with his size.  Obviously,  we all know he failed to develop his skills, especially shooting and defense.

But comparing Joey to Henry isn't very useful for projecting Joey as an NBA player.  I wish people would stop comparing the two and start over fresh when evaluating Joey.

I'm curious who you talked to.  Scouts, coaches, GM's, draft experts?  I don't need names, just their backgrounds to provide a little context.  And what do they mean by big time prospect?  Thanks.

Compare Joey's size, foot speed, lateral quickness and skill set to any current successful NBA player other than Dirk.

Normal quotes about his visits. MU = family, great atmosphere at the arena.

Gonzaga recruiting him the hardest. No leaders. Figuring out which school will prepare him best for the next level.

Ersan Ilyasova.

That said, I think it's highly unlikely Joey isn't at least a three-year player at Marquette.

I think the fact that we are playing Joey and Sam big minutes on the court together could go a long way towards showing Garcia that despite Joey's presence,  he could still play big minutes.

Agreed.

Hope he commits before he realizes how great Jamal and BB will be when he arrives!

Joey Hauser will be a fine college player.   0 percent.   I repeat, 0 percent chance of the NBA in his future.

I wonder what you'd have said about butler, crowder, lazar, McNeal, Matthews, Buycks, Wilson, djo, and blue. Let's be honest of all the players that we've had make the nba in recent years, not many have looked the part early on.
