Updated.  We're done for '18 with all 13 schollies accounted for.  On to the Class of '19.

When's the last time that happened?

Idk Chi, and while there's certainly one or two 'projects' on the team, we've got 10+ guys who absolutely can play high D-1 ball next year.  When has that happened in recent years?

For 2019 my dream scenario is Jalen Wilson and DJ Carton. Rocket Watts and Mario McKinney up there on my wish list as well. If Nico Mannion reclassifies to 19 he would be the top target IMHO. Though with McEwen in the fold, it does allow us to delay recruiting a PG another year if we need to.

However, I do think we need to start thinking about another big man. After Heldtasaurus graduates, Theo will be our only true center. I don't think you need a true center to be successful these days, but I'd like at least one more guy that's bigger than Joey Hauser roaming around the paint. If we don't get a big man in 2019, I think it becomes a must get in 2020.

Eke is the only one likely falling under that term I think.   Bailey seems to be very underrated, plus two years edge in maturity than typical freshman.  We'll see about him, but I'm guessing he's not going to play like a "project".

If only MU (and this coaching staff) had some success in taking a point guard from out west who decided to graduate early and helping  him develop into an excellent college player.......

I would agree if u stated 5’11 shooting guard

Ike.

I'm really worried about his back. I don't know the specifics but I feel like back injuries end careers at a higher rate than other kinds of injuries.

This is exactly how I feel. We likely are looking at a 4-man class for 2020 (assuming everything stays the same, which it never does). Ideally, Mannion comes on board then along with Jalen Johnson and at least one big man. I feel like that's overshooting, but those two would be the foundation of a spectacular class.

When's the last time that happened?

It was last expected to happen in 2013-14, before Vander declared for the draft and Jameel McKay left school right before the season started.  :-[

Sign 3 in the fall.  Someone will turn pro or there will be a transfer, most likely the latter. Maybe even two transfers.

1. PG
Carton, Watts, McKinney, maybe Mannion if he reclassified
2. Wing
Wilson, Williamson, and apparently MU was watching Josh Green this weekend. He plays with Mannion.
3. Big
I wonder when we see some new names pop up.

Personally, I would say Ike and Bailey at this point.  But either could be a significant contributor too.  Somebody has to be out of the rotation and those two are the most likely candidates as of today.

We have two slots.  I'm thinking that we'll still aggressively pursue a PG.  I think the second goes to a Big.

If Stan leaves I could see bailey but that being said if he transfers that'd be three years of not playing college ball. He'd be what 25 by the time he ended college? I can't see it if it's a rotation issue.

Just curious because I truly don't know - is 5 out of the realm of possibility for Joey? He's a big kid, perhaps wouldn't be a traditional 5 but wondering what people think about him defensively, especially his upside. He's tall enough to play 5.

We have total flexibility to take the best player available at the 1, 1.5, 2 or 3 positions.....

If you have paying attention to the visits.....That is what they are targeting......

As I said before.....Instead of targeting from a list of 3 to 4 point guards.....

You can recruit from a list of 10 "wings and under"......

Want 2 Top 50's......

Bailey is the X factor, you have no idea what he brings to the table, but he has matured put on weight and Stan loves him.  Can not ask for more.  Might be the best
player on the team or the worst, he will see.  2 years ago he reminded me on film of a young Reggie Miller.  Great range.  Time will tell.

As I've said before - often a little in jest but with an element of truth (as I see it): positions no matta.

There almost surely will be times Joey will find himself in the post on offense and defending the post on defense. There will be times Wojo needs the extra offense, or foul trouble, or the game is not going well so there is a change for change sake - as often happened when Sam played the post.

Same with Morrow. Peeps say that Morrow came to MU because he didn't want to play down low at Nebraska. But dollars to donuts says he will play plenty some 5.

Wojo has had a pretty darn good feel how to use those he has available at 5. Next season, he will have more options than ever, and I would expect him to make good use of them.

Totally agree - he'll definitely be guarding the 5 a lot, but I think he'll be out in space facing up (10-15 feet for a shot or drive & the occasional 3) and running the floor on the break way more than he would have at Nebraska, layered on top of post work. That's where I think the upgrade will come from in his mind. Excited to see how his shooting has improved over the season off.

Joey is good enough to play the 5 or 4 or 3.  He will probably grow another inch to 6’10”.
Wojo may be the best recruiter since Al.  I am really excited about the Warriors now!

Did you just cal me a peep?     :o

Jae Crowder certainly didn't come to MU to play some center, either, but there he was on occasion.

Like most talented Division I players Morrow wants to play after college, and IIRC he talked about wanting to play at least some three.

'After his sophomore season, Morrow decided to transfer. In a statement at the time, Morrow said: “Sometimes you have to venture out to pursue dreams and aspirations in a career. This is a sacrifice I have to make to better myself.”'
  https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2018/01/20/morrow-waits-chance-contribute-marquette-after-transferring-nebraska/1041404001/

I think he knew what he was doing when he signed on with a MU team that had just added Froling to go with Matt and Theo.  He's 6'7", I'm confident he was told that he would be looked at for time at the three, I'm also certain that he was told that there were no guarantees.  So, if it's a choice between playing center or sitting, I bet we see him out there.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Bailey is not a project. Who was the last top 75 recruit in the country that was considered a "project"? He is a higher ranked recruit than every one of our 2017 class and we only consider Ike a project out of those guys. Sure he took 2 years off, but all the kid has done is mature. Our coaches, specifically Stan, love the guy. I think he will be a bigger contributor this upcoming year than many think.
