Goodman reporting one of main reasons he left was because of TV package/new league.

Well then...

IU at least makes sense. Va Tech??? WTF??

It's a business. Anyone who took Buzz at his word for being here as long as they have me was crazy. I really liked Buzz and thought he was a great recruiter, but couldn't understand how the board thought he was so different than TC or any other coach,

Guess his shtick was...shtick

Maybe in the end we'll be better off.

Yes - we had very good years under Buzz, but this year was atrocious. It seemed to me that he was unwilling to change based on the personnel he had and that doesn't bode well for the future. A coach would cannot adapt is bound to die.

We have high expectations at MU. Va Tech has made the NCAA's twice in 25 years - the ball is low there and he'll probably sweat through less shirts with lowered pressure and expectations.

Seriously? For Va Tech?

unnatural carnal knowledge Buzz.

Wow. Good luck, guy. Thanks for the string of success here. What else can you say? No sense in getting pissed. Upward and onward.
Disagree 100%.  unnatural carnal knowledge him and the horse he rode in on.  "I'll be here as long as long as they'll have me" my ass.  I will make sure to actively cheer against him for the rest of his hopefully shitty coaching career.  A little adversity and he runs for the hills.  Character revealed indeed.

Silver lining: probably won't have to worry about being over-committed for next year!  ;D

First order of business... Un-follow Buzz on Twitter

AZWarrior

Marquette interim athletic director Bill Cords just said Buzz Williams is talking to his team right now and that the apparent message is that he is leaving to take the Virginia Tech job.

"I think that's what he's going to tell them," Cords said.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

Had to check the calendar to make sure its not April ,1

First thought that popped into my head as well...

MUEng92

I wondered if he insisted that Virginia Tech starts a Buzz's Bunch franchise? It is a business you know!

madtownwarrior

at least now we don't have to worry about Derrick Wilson being the starting PG next year....

T-Bone

My thought when rumors were flying about USF is that he would have thought hard about that had they been invited to the ACC.  He has huge amounts of man crushes for the coaches from the former BE and loves him some Boeheim and Pitino. Not to mention the other big coaches in the ACC.  It makes sense to me in that way.
I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

First, yes I knew his statement had some hyperbole to it.  But there also seemed to be some real humility and appreciation from him for MU giving him an opportunity.  Does he owe us anything?  No.  But don't spend 5 years bullshitting us either.

Second, why shouldn't we hope to get a coach that stays for the long term and retires here?  The second I stop thinking that's possible I will probably also lose a big portion of my fandom.

Third, MU was nothing but gracious when dealing with Buzz.  "Rolling contract" with basically annual renewals and raises... wow.  If that doesn't keep someone around then I guess I should reconsider my "second" comment.

So then the news leaked before he talked to his players?

By the way, Virgina Tech has been to the NCAA tournament a grand total of 8 times - the last being 2007. They have been to the Big Dance twice since 1986. They have been to one sweet 16 and one Elite Eight - both in 1967.

Good luck to you Buzz. Thanks for the memories and the nice NCAA runs here at Marquette. You could have been another legend like Maguire, but now you'll have to build up a dormant VT program. Good luck.

NickelDimer

I really hope it turns out Buzz can't coach for sh*t after all. I hope he fails miserably

If it leaked from the VT side, I can't put that on Buzz.

But didn't it leak from the IU side when Crean left?

Blackhat

So we've got Bill Cords picking our next coach....wtf..he's not connected in anymore.
