So over under on "character revealed" tweets Buzz gets today? 10,000? 20,000?

Bricky

At least next year we can start the buzz-to-marquette rumors.

Is this insinuating that MU let Buzz go?

Not necessarily, just that it was easier to pry him away.  Wolfson is a Twin Cities reporter, so he was saying Buzz would have gone to Minnesota last year if that buy-out hadn't been in place.  Minnesota must have balked at paying $2M.

If true, seems like a boneheaded decision to include that provision in Buzz's contract decreasing the buy-out.  $100K is the type of money these universities find between their couch cushions.

Guilty.

Big Papi

I know they need to hire a president first but hire Broeker and then go all in on Smart.  That will keep the team intact.

ChitownSpaceForRent

Based on the twitter world it seems like not a lot of his guys didnt know about it.

Interesting how many of the article comments / Tweets from around the country are stumped or think it's a dumb move.  Shows respect for our program.  With Crean, they all said...I4.

So he left for money and tv reasons huh? What a joke. I thought this man was the real deal, guess you dont really know people...

Something I probably never noticed, just because I figured Buzz would be around long enough that he wouldn't still be available:  Shaka was born in Madison.  And his wife went to Northwestern.

My (realistic) dream hires, in order:  (1) Shaka, (2) Calhoun, (3) Howland, (4) Marshall, (5) Someone with NBA experience (Danny Manning?)

mugrack

Buzz is taking his talents to Virginia Beach.  Buzz is dead to me.

They must be throwing stupid money at him.  Or Buzz realizes that the new Big East is garbage.  Or both.

He couldn't finish above 6th place in the new Big East.....garbage is somewhere else.

LOL at the thought of even considering Calhoun.  You want MU to be commencing another coaching search in 2 years?

All I know is this whole thing inspired me to crank up Enter Sandman. What a great song (And of the greatest scenes in all of college sports, if not sports period.)

Why Buzz Williams left Marquette now, per sources: AD left in Dec. With that, clause in contract changed Buzz's buyout from $2M to 100K.

LW strikes again.

Wow.  I thought the upside of having such a poor season was we wouldn't have to go through the season of "Buzz to" rumors".  Guess I was wrong.

I have no issue with a man making a decision to better his life, though its strange he would do it at such a salary reduction.  There was always something about Buzz that didn't sit well with me, I didn't think he was genuine.  I think it was comments such as "I'll stay as long as he'll have me".  As time went on and I heard things about Buzz's bunch and his teams did so well, I thought perhaps I was just wrong.

Now I'm not sure what to think.  Why would a man who has had such success and seemed prime to succeed in the future (despite the conference change) leave for what is not a definite upgrade?  Does it reflect on him or is there something at Marquette that results in coaches not wanting to be here after a certain amount of time?  Is his decision to leave entirely a reflection on Buzz or does it also indicate that there is something unique to Marquette that despite the investment in facilities and salary, results in successful coaches looking for the next opportunity?

Seriously?  What it indicates is that if you hire an antagonistic AD, your coach is likely to have some trepidation about who will be named as his replacement, even after the school has the sense to move on from that AD.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If this had happened a year ago, I would have really been down.
After what we saw this year - let's see who we get going forward, and go, Marquette!

I really hope it turns out Buzz can't coach for sh*t after all. I hope he fails miserably

We can actually make this happen.  Take to twitter and tweet VT recruits.  Tell them about DJ Newbill.  #Newbillsstory

If this is true, please aim higher than Brian Wardle
Why--Wardle is an upgrade over the douche. MU grad, played the game and he can coach. And he is not a BSer

I liked Buzz.  One bad year didn't change it for me.  Fired or not, I'm pretty shocked.  I had to find out with my wife texting me while I was on the golf course coaching the high school team.  Kind of a bummer on a decent Friday outside with the team.

The next coach has a lot of work to do, so I hope we find the right person for it, and not just an up-and-comer who has been recently successful.

Were not trying to regress as a program.  You think Stone is going to play for Wardle?
