Is va tech the worst job in the ACC?! I mean seriously I'm going over the other teams in my head and I can't think of a worse job in the conference. Maybe Clemson or ga tech? What the unnatural carnal knowledge buzz? I feel like he's just going to end up fired or bolting out of there in another year or two for a better job.

Now that Buzz is gone I can tell you that a former AD has referred to Buzz as the most unstable individual he has ever met.  It is amazing to me that Buzz won the war and then ceded the ground he won.  It is almost as if he want to blow everything up and then walk away.

Good luck to you Buzz. Thanks for the memories and the nice NCAA runs here at Marquette. You could have been another legend like Maguire, but now you'll have to build up a dormant VT program. Good luck.
Not from me.  I hope he's wishing he had stayed at New Orleans in 3 years.

Wow.  Is this anything but a step down?  I know the ACC is perhaps the best conference but VT is a dormant program. Good luck Buzz.  :-(

So then the news leaked before he talked to his players?

By the way, Virgina Tech has been to the NCAA tournament a grand total of 8 times - the last being 2007. They have been to the Big Dance twice since 1986. They have been to one sweet 16 and one Elite Eight - both in 1967.

Good luck to you Buzz. Thanks for the memories and the nice NCAA runs here at Marquette. You could have been another legend like Maguire, but now you'll have to build up a dormant VT program. Good luck.

By "Maguire" I'm assuming you mean Al McGUIRE!

Third, MU was nothing but gracious when dealing with Buzz.  "Rolling contract" with basically annual renewals and raises... wow.  If that doesn't keep someone around then I guess I should reconsider my "second" comment.

They opened up their pocket book but that doesn't mean there was disagreement behind the closed doors. I think Buzz and the ADep had very different philosophies. This isn't to say Marquette was wrong but coaches are control freaks and want things their way. That probably made him very unhappy.

Clemson? Boston College? It's pretty far down there.

To start from scratch? Wow. He's never completely rebuilt anything in his career. This is just a bad bad bad move for him career wise.

Why Buzz Williams left Marquette now, per sources: AD left in Dec. With that, clause in contract changed Buzz's buyout from $2M to 100K.

I agree ... if you want into the ACC, Wake Forest makes a lot more sense.

My initial reaction to this is total shock...shock at the extremelevel of apathy I have about the whole thing.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to truly care about any of this anymore. Between the corrupt NCAA, fraud of "student athletes," conference reallignment, and the ridiculous amounts of money involved in a professional enterprise masquerading as amateurism, etc., it is simply not worth my emotional energy. MU will hire a new coach, Buzz will likely do just fine at VT  and everyone but the actuall basketball players involved will cash a lot of really large checks...funded by us. One day I will get a back bone and stop participating in it all, and that day gets closer all the time. Until then...march madness baby!

How much of his $2M+ do you think he had to spend on therapy to console himself?

Things must have been sh*tty here for him to take Va Tech gig. No self-repsecting college bball fan would say Va tech is a better job than MU. I'll wish him well, but deep down, I don't give a damn if he sh*ts the bed in Blacksburg.

Honestly, huge upside to him leaving is no D Wilson at the point next year as a starter. I love you, buddy, but you're a back-up and there's nothing wrong with that.
