OhmyGod--how does this happen. Wisky in his finals and we are not?

Most likely Wisky will celebrate winning the silver medal in the Looney sweepstakes (see Tokoto, JP) even though they're not really being considered.

Y'all can piss and moan all you want, but here are the facts. Kevon is a special, special talent both on and off the basketball court. I've come across a lot of athletes and kids along the way, but it's very rare to find one who has his values in check and possesses the athletic ability that Kevon possesses. If each of you could spend 15 minutes with him, you'd see what I mean. In addition, the support system behind him is incredible beginning with his parents and older brother and sister.
Seven years ago, he told me his goal was to play in the NBA. Yeah right, and I want to spend an evening with Bar Rafaeli. Well, guess what? My ship has sailed and Kevon's has become a luxury liner on an express route. I, for one, am pullin' hard for him and would not bet against his success.
I don't know which school, he'll select. But, whatever program it is, is getting a huge asset. Don't dismiss Bo. He has endeared himself to the Looney family and with good reason. The man's one hell of a coach. Having said that, I think Kevon will accept the challenge and take his game to the school with the most prestige both on and off the court. That bein' Duke.

yeah, Bo is one hell of a coach. How did he do with that fiasco with the kid from Iowa who wanted out of his scholarship. In the end, Bo wanted to control where he could go to.

Really?

Steve Alford has gotten one team (Missouri State in 98-99) to the S16 in 17 years of D1 coaching.

Bo Ryan has five trips to the S16...one to the E8...in 14 years of D1 coaching.  Not to mention his four national titles at Platteville, one of which he beat Alford head to head.

If given the choice, I would rather play for Cuonzo at Tennessee than for Alford.

Agree. Alford's a bit of a snake. I hear nothing but good things about Cuonzo - the fact that he's on Looney's final list is impressive.

Because Buzz is smart enough to know that wasting resources in a recruit that everyone can see wants to leave the state is a waste of time. Bo didn't learn that with Tokoto and clearly hasn't learned it with Looney.

I do not disagree on spending time on guys you feel you can get and passing on guys you cannot. That said, it would have been nice to see us on final schools. If I were Buzz that would have been a priority to me. Sounds like Looney and his family are stand up people and possibly Buzz could have just sold the importance on being on the final cut of schools.

4everwarriors

Cuonzo has been on him since takin' over at UT. Buzz quit recruitin' him some time ago. Likely, knew Kevon preferred to leave town.

Eh...

There is no reason to try to get in the final list if you have no shot.  Better to cut bait early and move on.

4everwarriors

Looney prefers to leave home to attend school. Pretty certain he never specified the urge to leave the state.

Losing a close recruiting battle and losing an obviously lost recruiting battle has the same end result. In 5 years, will anyone care who was second for Looney? No. Neither should anyone care about who will be second now. There is no point on pursuing a lost recruit. Better that Buzz spend time on a recruit like Larrier we still have a chance with than putting on a show for someone like Looney we can't get. That's why being out early is a good thing. Saves wasted time and resources.

Yup, Bo is a real superstar. ::) Let me know when he finally beats a higher seeded team in the tourney.

Sorry about that Bar Rafaeli thing.  Maybe set the bar a little lower say Janet Reno, Hillary Clinton or someone of that ilk.

Agree. Spending resources just to make someone's "final list" can prove productive for a new coach like Cuonzo or a down program trying to rebuild. Otherwise it's a fool's errand.

Don't forget Bo's amazing history of placing kids in the NBA, especially early commits.

And his incredible ability to take McD's All-Americans like Brian Butch and have them end up actually working at McDonalds.

I remember O'Neill while at MU ridiculing coaches who bragged about getting home visits with recruits they had no chance to land.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Brewtown Andy

Here's why you don't bother chasing after Kevon Looney if his mind is set on leaving home to go to college:

Davante Gardner.

I'd much rather see Buzz beating the bushes to find someone that he sees something in that he can work with and develop into an all league player.

If you set the bar that low, you get the sandwich threesome: Hillary Clinton, Janet Reno and Donna Shalala. Man what a lovefest that would be. Throw in Janet Napolitano and you have a finalist team for Miss America.

I've seen a few of the guys who post on this site. They'd be lucky to get even one from that group.

+1

Though it sucks that Gtown is off his list.  If he's not at MU, I'd at least like to see him in the league.  Oh well.

Looney is special and I hoped that we could have a chance at landing him.

Best of luck to Kevon. Rep Wisconsin well wherever you go...unless it's in Rodent Red!
