Don't know if that is true, but it is par for No Dick arrogance. They think they are better than all others.

Chick and her hubby seem to be connected at MU so I would put some stock in her statement about Brey.

As long as Buzz stays, MU will be in the discussion.    A whole lot has to go right to win the it all.   If the first 5 years of the Buzz regime are the new normal, I can live with it.    8 tourney wins in 5 years, vs. 5 wins in the previous 9 years?    And prior to that.....3 wins in 20?    I can live with this.

It is more accurate to say that Marquette had one NCAA Tournament win in 8 years under the Bronzed Beast.

Give Crean his due.   190 wins in 9 years.    5 NCAA tourney wins.   Worked his butt off to market MU.  He had his flaws when he coached at MU, he still has some of them at IU.

Five-star forward Kevon Looney has narrowed his list to six schools. Now he must plan official visits before making a decision.

Earl Tatum

I see on the wire that Looney's coach, Tom Diener is heading for Cedarburg to coach.
Hope we get a verbal from Terry Larier or Paul White.

Hey Tatum -- I appreciate the update on Deiner. I heard for a few months he was looking there and has been softly "recruiting" other parents to get their kids to go there -- his kid is a stud and going into 8th grade. He has coached his son's team to back-to-back state championships at Franklin and Cedarburg has a pretty good team in his son's grade. Thanks for the info.

Kevon plans to announce his decision in October. Wants it out of the way before his senior season.

I would like to see him end up at Duke, Florida, or MSU.  Incredible coaches at all 3 places.  The other 3 are just blah.

I have no love for Wisconsin, but Bo Ryan is more than just a "blah" coach.  He may not be at the level of K, Izzo or Donovan, but he is miles ahead of Alford and Martin.

He is a great team coach.  Individual players looking to play in the NBA... I'd go to one of the other schools.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I haven't looked it up, but it seems to me that Izzo falls into a similar category - given his teams' successes his players haven't exactly taken the NBA by storm.

I don't think if Looney goes to UW, his road to the NBA will be hampered in anyway.  Remember the phrase the only person that could hold Michael Jordan under 20 ppg was Dean Smith?  Talent will win out.

Is that because he doesn't coach them up...or because he is such a good coach that he gets them to win despite their talent deficiencies.

I'd like you to explain the curious case of Brian Butch to me then.

That may be the reality.  Unfortunately, you can rest assured that guys like Alford, Martin, and Donovan have no problem persuading recruits to believe the opposite.

I'd say it's the latter. Knight had really good talent at IU (and 2 years of Isiah, who was great). Dean Smith had much more talent at UNC. Today you could say the same about Izzo and Roy Williams. IMO Knight and Izzo could/can coach circles around those guys.

What is so curious about it?  Butch was the #11 rated player according to Scout.  Are we under the impression that a #11 rated player is sure-fire NBA?  Here are the others rated in the same spot from the last few years.

'05 - Richard Hendrix (went to Alabama...drafted in second round...currently plays in Russia.)
'06 - Brook Lopez (NBA All Star)
'07 - DeAndre Jordan (went to Texas A&M...plays for Clippers and makes a bunch of highlight reels.  Decent player.)
'08 - Delvon Roe (went to Michigan State...stopped his basketball career due to chronic injury)
'09 - Keith Gallon (aka "Tiny"...went to Oklahoma...currently in NBDL)
'10 - CJ Leslie (went to NC State...undrafted this year)
'11 - Myck Kabongo (went to Texas...had to sit due to inappropriate contact with agent...went undrafted)
'12 - Cameron Ridley (at Texas...not terribly impressive his freshman year)

We are under this impression that he somehow got his sure-fire NBA career derailed by Bo Ryan.  However when you look at this list, you have one NBA all star and one other player on an NBA roster.  Perhaps Roe would have made it as well, but the rest of them look pretty much destined for a career similar to Butch's.

First and foremost, Butch was overrated. That said, I can't remember another player rated even close to #11 being redshirted. To me, that's Bo unnecessarily flexing his muscles and saying "I'm smarter than everybody else".

Look, I'm not saying that Ryan is a bad coach.  He is far from it.  But when you get the #11 player in the country, and then red shirt him, and he doesn't get a SNIFF from NBA scouts then something is probably off.  That said, as a player I'd rather take my chances at Duke or Florida.

Definitely debatable he is miles ahead of Alford
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Really?

Steve Alford has gotten one team (Missouri State in 98-99) to the S16 in 17 years of D1 coaching.

Bo Ryan has five trips to the S16...one to the E8...in 14 years of D1 coaching.  Not to mention his four national titles at Platteville, one of which he beat Alford head to head.

If given the choice, I would rather play for Cuonzo at Tennessee than for Alford.
