Gee. what a shock. We never had a chance. He's a one-and-done.

MerrittsMustache

Good for him. Honestly, if my kids were highly-recruited basketball players (not holding my breath on that one  ;)), I'd want to get them away from home a little bit.

I wish Looney the best.

One-and-done? Sounds like Kentucky or Duke may have the upper hand.

Tums Festival

As long as he doesn't end up with Becky, I could care less where he goes.

I really don't even care if he goes there.

Too bad.  Thought Looney could contribute to a MU national title.  He will learn that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

He *could* learn that...or it might work out better for him.  You really never know.

Is that like a root canAl? Remember, there is ANAL in root cANAL. (Especially when 4never is involved.)

PS - WHO IS KEVIN L?

Kevon is no Tokoto. Dude is legit.

What does crap like this even mean? You write that as if Looney was somehow Marquette property who's turning his back on Buzz.

Yeah, just as Joe Wolf learned the grass wasn't greener at UNC, Jon Scheyer learned the grass wasn't greener at Duke, Iman Schumpert learned the grass wasn't greener at George Tech, etc.

I hate to break it to some folks, but there are a couple of other pretty decent colleges in America from which to choose.

Agreed.

And what does that sentiment mean for the recruits from outside Milwaukee that Buzz is trying to land?  That if we sign a player from Chicago or Texas or the East Coast that those recruits will quickly learn that the grass isn't greener at Marquette?

And while we're at it, can we drop the act that we didn't really want him becuase he's a "one and done".  I suspect that if Buzz thought could have landed Looney, he would have done so in a heartbeat, and not a single person here would be upset.

I also suspect that the same people who are professing that they "didn't really want" Looney are quite hopeful that we'll land Diamond Stone or Henry Ellison.

Eldon

Hopefully he ends up at Gtown and takes them far in the tourney.

muvanwilder

Just purely rumors that I heard, but wouldn't be surprised to see Looney at Duke and Stone at Kentucky.

I dont think this is the case here.  I feel as though we have known he was going elsewhere for quite some time now, so we tend to "not care" right now that it is official MU is off his list.

If anyone here didnt want Looney, then I seriously question their credibility from here on out.

He would've been a tremendous addition, even if it had been for one season. But, since he isn't coming to Marquette, I just hope that wherever he does end up doesn't somehow make Marquette look bad in the process. That's why I'm hoping he doesn't end up with Becky.

That's my guess too. Looney is infatuated with Duke. MU has a decent shot at Stone, but once the elites get serious, it's game over.

If that does happen, would it be considered a failure that the staff did not get either one?  By failure, I mean the perception that a Big East school, with Sweet Sixteens and constant top twenty rankings, could not sign either from their home state.

I truly believed MU would get one of the two, so lets see how this plays out.

kmwtrucks

I would not consider it a fail if we missed on a top 10 and top 5 player.  If we miss on Cohen then I would think that is failure.  If you can get 2/3 of your recruits as 4 star player's you are going to build a top 15 team.  Which is what I hope we are able to do. Get lucky a few years and maybe you sneak into the the Top 5 and compete for national Titles.  I consider 4 of the 5 recruits coming in 4 star. Everybody other then Dawson.

We have not landed a top 10 or 5 player in decades. When one is in your backyard, we need to get him. It would be great to get a top 10 player every few years, but decades is unacceptable.

Would you fire Buzz if doesn't land either one?

Top 5-10 players leave their state all of the time to play for one of the national powers. It's not like Coach K, Calipari, and Self are getting most of their elite recruits each year from North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas.

It almost seems that we were never really in contention with Looney. Stone is another matter - he has ties to Duane and the quotes from his Dad make me think that a guy like Buzz has a real chance.
