I know we have had success the last 8 years, but comparing them to Duke's....come on...

MU - 8 Tournament Appearances, 3 Sweet Sixteens, 1 Elite Eight, 1 Reg Season Championship, Tourney Record of 9-8, Total Record of 191-85

Duke - 8 Tournament Appearances, 5 Sweet Sixteens, 2 Elite Eights, 1 Final Four, 1 National Championship, 2 Conference Reg Season Championships, 4 Conference Tournament Championships, Tourney Record of 16-7, Total Record of 236-51

Besides the success there are other things MU just cannot offer. I would think any high school player would love to play in a Duke/North Carolina game. The best we can offer is MU/UW, which is a real yawner to anyone outside of Wisconsin. You go to Duke, North Carolina, Kansas or Kentucky, because you expect to at least get to final four.

We'll know that the perception of MU has changed when we snag a 5 star recruit. Championship is automatic a couple years after (if Buzz stays).
Wow.   :o

A lot of shocking things are posted on here.  This might take the cake as the most shocking ever.

Agreed, one 5 star athlete helps but it could have been Brian Butch, a nice player, but that is it.  Al's best team was 1976, he had 5 NBA players starting, that is what you need.
Whitehead, Ellis, Tatum, Walton and Lee.  All had a few years in the NBA.  I do not know what stars they were, yes Bo and Butch were Top 5 players in there class, Tatum and Walton
were pretty high ranked, not sure about Jerome, but he had the longest career in the NBA.  By the way, that team did not win the championship.

Vander Blue was a five-star recruit.

Good point, better than Brian Butch but still will have trouble making it depending on what team drafts him, hope he is not drafted, and the Bucks sign him.  There is room for him here,
give him a year in the D-league and then he might make it.  Needs lots of work, but no school and even DWade learned how to shot the ball after college.  Vander showed great improvement from
soph to junior year, needs to take another jump to make the league.

Give Buzz 10 more years here and I'd put odds of another final four appearance around 90-95% and odds of a natty around 25%. I have that much confidence in him long term, but we're not in a position to get there overnight. We're certainly close though, and trending further in the right direction every day. Breathe in willie, then breathe out. Enjoy the ride.

Earl Tatum

I think Looney is making a mistake playing elsewhere. Going to "Becky" would really
screw his game up. Hope he makes it. Probably a one-n-done. We don't need him.

True, Marquette does not need Kevon Looney, but he sure would help a lot.

Also, there's no need to worry about Looney going to Wisconsin.  It's not going to happen.

According to one recruiting service.

Which by the rules of this board means he's a consensus five-star.

MU vs ND is on par with MU vs UW and if we set it to opposite of the UW series we can always guarantee a super big home game

My guess is that the average recruit outside of Wisconsin would rather play in an MU game against ND than one against UW. The trouble is that ND is no longer on our schedule.

Nice! Way to hedge your bets. Give him 10 years. Kind of like saying in 10 years our school system will be on track.

So you demand a national championship next year or else?

I think people don't realize how hard it is to be National Champions. You have to be good and lucky. Look at all the five stars the blue bloods get and they are more likely than not to get a NC. There are just too many good teams. The goal is to be in that circle of good teams and hope you get hot at the right time.

That is true.   And true in pretty much any of the upper echelon sports.   Baseball might be the exception.

For the less sanguine among us I would think that a continuation of the current level of success would be more than acceptable. Continuous visits to the Dance is a refreshing change from the immediate past.

My understanding is that both institutions were interested in keeping the rivalry going.

My point is one or two Top 25 recruits combined with Buzz coaching genius is a recipe for a national championship. We're making the Elite 8 with 3 and 4 star players.

You're telling me Vander was a 5 star shooting guard that majority of us feels can't shoot. Was he really a 5 star player. JJJ is considered a better shooter than Vander coming in, and he's only a 4 star.

Maybe I'm believing in Buzz a little too much?

Yes it is if you consider "immediate past as 10 years or longer ago". But many now want more, and that is OK.]

6 or 7 years, I mean two years first weekend, two years sweet 16, one elite 8, so next year is an elite 8, then two years of final fours, then two in the national championship game and then we win it.  Of course this is 90% hope but I believe that we will win.

As long as Buzz stays, MU will be in the discussion.    A whole lot has to go right to win the it all.   If the first 5 years of the Buzz regime are the new normal, I can live with it.    8 tourney wins in 5 years, vs. 5 wins in the previous 9 years?    And prior to that.....3 wins in 20?    I can live with this.
