Agreed, but we still need a traditional shooter(s) IMO. That inability to consistently hit from outside early in the season has us down 3 or 4 losses at this point that could have been the other side of the coin.

Welcome to MU Jamal.

I wonder what his actual height is...

If you went by his actual height you couldn't campare apples to apples....

Mobot

6'10" wingspan and you can definitely see it in the youtube clips.

Welcome to MU Jamal.

If DJO wasn't uncharacteristically off it would never have been an issue. While it never hurts to have another guy who can put the ball in the net, I believe there are enough shooters on this team.

I also forgot to add that even though they will be gone, we also have Joe and Jimmy this year.

All these J's makes me like the odds of landing J.P.:)

Welcome to MU Jamal.

Facts beg to differ with you. Here are the Big East 3 point shooting percentage numbers:

1. Pitt 39.4
2. UL  38.0
3. GU  37.9
4. MU  37.8
5. ND  36.9
6.Vill   36.3
7.SYR 34.6
8.WVU34.6
9.UC   34.2
10 UCONN 33.8
11.RUT 33.5
12.PROV 30.8
13.SHALL30.3
14.STJ 30.0
15.SFLA29.6
16.DePaul 27.3

So we're 4th in the conference, in a statistical dead heat for 2nd and 3rd. We also have the same % as the UW Traditionals. Turns out that in spite of a poor start, 3 point shooting is one of our strengths. We need rebounders not more shooters.

MuMark

Even teams with good shooters have bad shooting games.

We were one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country last year and still had some games when we couldn't throw it in the ocean.

4-18 from 3 against Florida State...lost by 1.

7-24 against Nova lost by 2

4-12 against Depaul

5-19 against Pitt

5-18 against SJ

4-23 against ND   :-[ (they were 3-21 and won!)

Kind of my point, though, he was off and we had no pure shooters to step in and fill the void.

In my mind our best teams this last decade have been ones with slashers, pure shooters and a solid inside.  Able to win in all three offensive phases of the game.

Our best teams in the last decade were 2002-3, 2001-2 and 2008-9. Only the 2002-3 team fits your description. the 2001-2 team had little inside and shot 3s at the same rate as this year's team (who you find lacking). The 2008-9 team had little inside and shot at a 34.7% clip from 3 (3.1% worse than this year).

Also interesting to see how this squares with the recruitment of Tokoto. It leaves MU in a spot where they're a bit handcuffed unless they've gotten indications they should look elsewhere.

Let me just say, that given the roster turnover we have seen over the past couple of years, it wouldn't surprise me in the least that we have more than two newbies on this team in Fall of 2012.  18 months is a long time from now.

And I am not going to speculate on who might leave...who might not show up...or if Buzz decides not to give one of his 2011 scholies.

Ferguson's a 2, Tokoto's a 3.

where did you see/hear that?

From a fellow Virginia native, welcome Jamal!

I am thrilled that we can grab another great Virginia player while going up against ACC teams including Virginia and Virginia Tech in state and Maryland just to the north, as well as beating out Georgetown.

The Texas pipeline, and now big grabs from California and Virginia back to back, wow we are looking like a national team.  The program is awesome!
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

I wonder what his actual height is...

Whatever his actual height is, he sure seems to have some pretty long arms which could allow him to defend bigger than his height. It's not like when a defender elevates to contest a shot, he uses his head to contest the shot instead of his arms.

For sure, just curious since I've seen three different ones on the sites.

I'll be curious to see where else we use 2012 schollies. Pretty sure we only have 2 graduating scholarships in DJO and Crowder, so barring another transfer, we have one left. Not sure if I'd rather see it go to JPT, a big, or a point. With so many switchables on board, I think a big or point would suit our needs better. Love to see Buzz add Stokes or Nolan.
