Why would Donovan Davis choose Marquette as long as 18 is on the roster and guaranteed 40 mpg by SS?

1.21 Offensive BPR
-1.32 Defensive BPR

Caedin Hamilton
-1.78 Offensive BPR
1.40 Defensive BPR
-0.36 Total BPR

Per BPR, Greyson is about a Caedin Hamilton level player.

I'm a little amused people thought we were seriously going against UNI there. Just because Cody Hatt followed someone doesn't mean they have an offer or that we're actively pursuing them.

No disrespect, but this looks like a middling varsity high school player - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y30WSY8EtYc

He could develop into a solid player but I can't see him contributing at the big east level for at least two more years.

I'd be shocked if we were actually in for this guy. Even more shocked if we put out best foot forward and lost to UNI.

Quote from: Juan Anderson's Mixtape on April 28, 2026, 01:30:38 PMI don't have much interest in early enrolling HS players.

Most are unlikely to contribute that first year (see Phillips, Michael) and there's always a risk that the very best ones leave for the portal before making a significant impact at MU (see Pearson, Sheek).

And when 5 in 5 passes, HS age players will be at an even bigger disadvantage.  Older transfers that can contribute right away make more sense.

Woah what about Howard, Markus?!

I'm kidding I largely agree however if it comes to fruition that we can put contracts in place where a red shirt has to play at least a year with a buyout that'd essentially amount to what they'd likely make in NIL at a new school then I'm all for it and think it could lead to us getting that next tier of recruit more consistently.

If transfers were immediately eligible then, there's a good chance Markus Howard transfers after his sophomore year.

Multi-year contracts would solve some issues, but I don't think the NCAA is going to take the lead on the necessary reforms.

A Scoop poster told me in DMs that Markus was considering transferring after his sophomore year.  I consider this person credible.

I will let them decide if they want to identify themselves.

Schools are already signing kids to multi-year agreements with buyouts and they're getting out of them (see the Texas Tech QB who was just sued). A friend who coaches at a mid-major lost his two top guys despite buyouts. The new schools are just paying the buyouts.

It was me. Markus told me he was upset that 18 would be playing 40 mpg in 2026.

The last line doesn't suprise me but at least you recoup some investment. What surprises me is that contracts are viewed iron clad in pro sports but they can get out in college which is effectively pro now

Mostly because they aren't employees.

Ehhh, I think schools are afraid of the PR fight as well.

What's also been happening (as noted by NCAA folks) is that some schools have arranged for boosters to illegal pay the buyout costs -- and the NCAA has reminded folks this is not OK. But, sure it will still go on.

It feels like all activity ground to a halt while everyone held their breath for the 5x5 ruling. With that settled, are we thinking MU will dip back in??

I've seen nothing this past week. I don't know whether or not it's a good sign that Sheek hasn't committed to SLU yet.

I don't think there was some big holding of breath. It's as expected — no go for those who have already exhausted eligibility, though some may try.

As for Sheek, they're waiting to announce at a Cards / Brewers game where he's gonna come out in an SLU jersey and throw the first pitch.

Not that anyone cares... but, looking over some teams' roster turnover during this year's Portal Kombat event is somewhat striking... I'm not sure in what manner, but it's so detached from how NCAA basketball operated just 2-3 years ago (for better or worse).  Look at Oregon... basically a whole new team:

https://247sports.com/college/oregon/season/2026-basketball/transferportal/?institutionkey=24090

That's 8 gone and 8 in (not including recruits)...

Providence is the same way:

https://247sports.com/college/providence/season/2026-basketball/transferportal/?institutionkey=24308

8 gone and 7 in (not including recruits)...

I guess if you completely suck ass and have no hope looking forward, you might as well start over... because you can.

Are there any corollaries in other sports outside the NCAA framework?  Do professional sports have this level of turnover as a % of their roster from one year to the next?  Maybe high-level international soccer (other international sports)? I don't see it in American sports.

A reckoning is coming... after all they are student athletes not professionals ;).
