Gotta admit ... if Byrd's a player we were really targeting, I'm a little disappointed to see him end up at another BE school - especially one that isn't UConn, StJ or Creighton.

Providence lost key players to the portal......Oswin, Vaaks, Jones.....so they had more money to throw at Byrd.......lots of schools with better programs were reportedly pursuing him.....PC must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse............the real question is will the money be well spent? what kind of team can they put around him?

If a guy doesn't end up here I really don't care where he goes........but it could be argued that the Big East needs good players in the conference on teams that weren't good last season.

I don't think it's all that uncommon to see players who will eventually leave still in practices until decisions are finalized. When I was a student manager for 5 minutes it was well known Jamail Jones (shoutout JJJJJ) was leaving and he still practiced with the team, Sandy Cohen and Steve Taylor later with Wojo, etc. Hell, when Shaka first got the job he was in Instagram videos with DJ "THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT" Carton and DJ left like a week later.

It's up to Shaka to build his roster. He did a very poor job of that this year. If he believes in Hamilton, so be it. Miss the tournament again next season for whatever reason, however, then he shouldn't be back for the 2027-2028 season. To be honest, I've only seen a fraction of the players in the portal actually play a game so I can only judge on the results.

It doesn't bother me that he's in the Big East; it wouldn't have bothered me if he went to the SEC. If he's not MU-bound, to heck with him!

I saw Byrd play 3 times after I heard MU might want him. His shooting form is atrocious - I can see why he's had a lousy 3-point percentage. And while he's a good help defender, he gambled for steals too often and he got beat off the dribble a lot, too. But I think he also was playing through injuries, so maybe I didn't see him at his best.

You're entitled to your opinion, but realistically speaking, Shaka would not be fired were that to happen. While his seat would definitely start to get quite warm, I have no doubt he'd be given one final chance to turn things around.

And even if you could fire him next season, would you really want to risk losing Nigel James Jr too? (*i.e., if we just barely miss the tournament, but NJ and the team are clearly improving and continuing to show rising potential)

I find it amusing that a coach can firmly make the NCAA tournament in each of his first four years at a program (with a record of 3-4), but miss it once due to a bad season, and fans will immediately turn to saying that coach should be fired if he misses the tournament a second year in a row.

Undersized freshman wing whose calling card is defense. I don't hate it but seems more like one for the future than next season. Think this would be a solid third portal signing, with two more immediate impact pieces coming in .

Would absolutely love this add.  Big wing who can really guard.  The shooting percentages are ugly, but on a low sample.  The form looks very solid so I think there's a lot of room to improve there.
