Quote from: wisblue on January 28, 2025, 10:02:07 PMGood to see that the team was able to add to the lead with Kam on the bench for several minutes.

But I wouldn't want to make a habit of that along with the habit of falling behind by double digits in the first half. That isn't going to cut it in the second half of the conference schedule

I wouldn't call Kam's bench time "several minutes," ;D   but agree with the rest of your post. In the next 3 games, digging out of a hole will be much ore difficult.

I'm especially enjoying this win because the guys built a 2nd half lead without Kam on the floor.

Are we a team that plays to the level of the opponent? Scores seem like it but I wonder if it's just our team figuring it out. Butler definitely a different team between halves.

What would you call it then? He was out for 10 straight minutes. After having been out a bit after his 2nd and 3rd fouls, too.

Telfort gets a very friendly whistle.

Related, do refs ever call violations for >10s at the FT line?

Telfort takes a LONG time to shoot. MU fans were counting out loud. At least one time they got to 15

Unless it's DePaul or Seton Hall, it's probably best to not expect start to end dominant performances really from anyone in this league. Will they happen on occasion? Yeah. But Big East games are a bear. Especially when you've been at the top of the standings and rankings all year and are everyone's best chance at a needle moving win.

Several, to me, means about 3 or so. If you want to call 10 minutes several and that makes you happy, good for you.

Quote from: DoctorV on January 28, 2025, 10:01:32 PMGreat question Muggsy

I have to think about it.

I've got a question for you-
How does Shaka always seem to fire up a nice 2H run?
It's as if they go down at half but you just know it's coming

I think we have the ability to wear certain teams down.

MU has yet to play their A game minus the bludgeoning of Providence in the 1H.

Butler gave UConn and Creighton all they could handle this month. They were also up at the half at St. John's.

There was a reason I was a bit worried about this one.

Glad to get the win and a lot of positives to take away from the 2nd half.

Related: I love Zaide's game and look forward to his upperclassmen years.

Was interesting to see Hinkle - nice floor and lighting, somewhat intimate feeling, open spaces lacking and underjohned.

Good MU presence in the crowd.

Everyone, BU fans included, seemed to know they wouldn't shoot like that all night.

Picked up the D in the second half and kudos to Tre and Zaire - they're starting to play like they're not frosh any more.

I hated hinkle when I went. MU lost though so I'm sure I would have liked it a lot better had they won.

Hinkle takes cash at their concession stands.  Which they have a barely adequate number of.

This. Also wouldn't have near the history without "Hoosiers" or the 1954 Milan championship. Cool venue, probably not near D1 standards.

I think he's already there for me. What a great player and kid. He's come so far from being "just" a pesky defender. He consistently contributes and has developed a really nice all-around game. A few minutes of game time after Kam sat down last night, my son texted me, "Stevie has matured so much as a player." Yes, he has. Love that kid.

Quote from: tower912 on January 28, 2025, 09:42:34 PM8. Hinkle is awesome.

Quote from: GB Warrior on January 28, 2025, 09:55:14 PMStevie is elite, but it's a bit sad we don't get one more season to appreciate how far Jop has come defensively.
Quote from: Big Papi on January 28, 2025, 10:09:50 PM1. Stevie is my mvp of this team. Great defensively. Has become aggressive offensively and is scoring. He is the heart and sole of this team. He is a winner deserves to be first team all conference

I'd love it if Stevie got First Team BEast, but I doubt it will happen. I'm going to be pissed if he doesn't get some serious accolades -- Second Team (at least) and I really think he should get DPOY. It also certainly wouldn't shock me if he brought home the second consecutive Scholar-Athlete award for Marquette (but in addition to the other awards that he deserves). And just maybe, if Kam gets POY, they'll squeeze Stevie onto First Team since Kam won't be on it.

That's what I thought you were getting at...when I saw "several" in the initial post my immediate thought was, "that was a hell of a lot longer than 'several' minutes." He was out 10:07...in CBB that's a full quarter.

I'm hoping that Kam's stint on the bench last night will prove to be one of the most important 10 minutes of the season. The team stepped up and really responded. Hopefully a bunch of guys will gain confidence from that going forward and the team will play a bit better when Kam is on the bench. Also, hopefully they'll never have to play 10 minutes with Kam on the bench again.

Quote from: TallTitan34 on January 28, 2025, 11:35:06 PMI think their court looks terrible.

I don't know if it is a problem when it's colder (i.e., basketball season), but their court was always wet during volleyball season. Every time we went there they had huge fans blowing on the ends of the court and a bunch of condensation in those areas. Fortunately, it was pretty much limited to the ends of the court near where the baskets would be, so it didn't affect volleyball. I saw one time last night where it looked like someone slipped, but I've never noticed it being an issue during MBB.
