Quote from: MUfan12 on January 24, 2025, 10:17:39 PMI'm usually critical of the officiating, but both teams really gave them no choice in the second half. Bad closeouts/footwork and a lot of clear reach-ins.

It was annoying, but had to do a better job of guarding without fouling.

Watch it! This is heresy on scoop.  ;D  The refs conspire to give the game to one of the teams. That's what they are really talking about when the reviews take so long. "OK. Let's take a vote. Who are we going to give the game to?"

The Seton Hall game was not, in my opinion, a clear indication that the Marquette had gotten over the problems/weaknesses in the previous 3 games. They were just too crappy of an opponent. But this game? Oh yeah!

He's solid on Defense....his 3 point shooting is atrocious.
We all want him to be more than he is.

How did we look against the zone?

I'm not sure he's saying that Rico.  Not everyone pans out on a college roster.  Tre has had some good moments on offense but they have been few and far between.  His jump shot is more like a catapult and I don't think anyone sincere is confident that it going in when he shoots.

Long list of recent players on MU who have had exponentially better sophomore seasons.  He plays good defense and is a good teammate.  That however doesn't inspire confidence that he is in the next wave of talent to keep this train rolling.  Serviceable but unspectacular piece this year.  Hope he continues to improve.  Certainly not rooting against him.

See you there, my friend.

I began my MU sojourn tonight. Then Indy. Then back to Milwaukee for UConn. Looking for a 3-0 trip!

Play of the game, right?  Nova had cut it to 6, could've made it a one possession game.

I doubt Tre ever becomes Kam or TKo.  All Americans.  I do think with a minimum of 15 games to go this season and then an offseason of work that he can be the starting PG next season.  I actually prefer him to Sean for various reasons.
Also, the principles of the offense will remain, but with the other 4 starters likely being Chase, Ben, Royce, and DO, will the PG really need to be as dynamic as TKo/Kam?  Or will he need to not turn the ball over and slow down the opposing PG, a la Stevie?
At this point, I agree Tre does not appear to be heading to the league. But there are still 2.5 years of growth ahead.  And I am almost always optimistic.

My favorite comments are those that claim the reason Stevie didn't go to Villanova is that he didn't qualify academically.
Have some patience, FFS.

Officiating Q:  should they have called offensive basket interference on Parham on Stevie's layup?  Hit the ball while it was still in the net and it popped up and then dropped back through.  In the moment I thought he should've been called, but don't know the exact rule.  Nova bench definitely thought so.

Stevie looked over at him and motioned for him to chill right after.

Based on the very quick look-up I just did, it would seem basket interference should have been called.

I'll be interested to hear from others on this.

I wouldn't assume Zaide isn't a starter next year. His 3 point shot looks good and he can defend.

Only players I'm Sharpying in are Chase and Ben. Can see any of Zaide, Parham, Owens, Jones, and Norman starting. If Sean is back to fully healthy and has his athletic ability and confidence completely back, I'd bet on him at the point.

I'll wager SJ is the starting PG next year.  Nearly 18 months will be more than enough to time to be ready.  He'll have to get the game experience again.

Well, Tyler didn't go to Providence because he can't read as well.  I guess we'll take anyone.

All this is fair, but let's be clear, he may not even be close to our recent non all Americans (Stevie, Justin, Omax, Oso, Chase) their sophomore years.  You could even throw Sean in there for the game turning impact he has had in several big games freshman and sophomore year before injury.

I do think you are right in that it is probably better to wait on judgement either way until we see what he brings to the table the rest of the season and the beginning of next year.  I truly hope you are right.  Need as many impact guys as possible.

I agree.  And it will be interesting to see how that impacts Tre/DO.  Can Tre take over the Stevie role?  Or will Shaka go with DO for more offensive firepower and length in the starting rotation.  Size-wise, I have to imagine that Shaka will not want to play Sean and Tre together a ton, but maybe speed will make up for it.

In some ways, Tre loses out with Sean's redshirt decision.  Could be the first real interesting test of culture/players not transferring out.  I wouldn't begrudge Tre if he felt like he's lost some opportunity in his senior year now, barring injury or something else shaking things up.

Agree on all of this.

Though if we have a chance to get Anthony Davis or Bam Adebayo, either would be a lot better than disappointing Ben Gold.
