Hard to believe Nova's midrange jumpers didn't beat MU tonight.

Quote from: FairWeatherEagle on January 24, 2025, 09:16:03 PMI don't take a lot from this game. We played like we should. The key is playing good for multiple games in a row.

I expect MU should
Beat Butler away.
Beat UConn at home
Beat 1 of 2 away games at STJ or CR
Win the next 4 after that
Etc

If we consistently do what we should....there it is.

That's fair, fair weather Eagle, but don't be so matter of fact.

If you do that you lose sight of the fact that what's being done, night in and night out, is special.

Don't miss out on all the special moments by setting and depending on expectations set by those previous special moments.
Enjoy the ride.

What I mean is that you expect those things you listed because of what you've seen from this team and how good it can be.
I said before this season that if Shaka made this season work, after losing Oso and TyKo to the NBA, two of the most vital pieces in his Marquette career, he should be given complete trust in everything-anything he does while at Marquette, a lifetime contract if you will.

Long season to go- As a matter of fact we are at the exact halfway point with 20 games left- but what him and his team have accomplished so far this season is incredible, and a lot of Marquette fans are losing sight of that because of the continued success

We could roll our way to a national title and you'd still be saying you're not sure we can take much away from this team. Every time we win the games you say we should if we're good you just move it on back.

Quote from: wadesworld on January 24, 2025, 08:19:55 PMAnybody know why JC Latham was sitting court side? He had instagram stories there and was celebrating Royce's half time 3 at the buzzer.

He's a Milwaukee kid.  Played HS ball at Catholic Memorial and I think he played AAU with Joplin, but I may be misremembering that one.

Big Papi

Stevie makes so many winning plays.  He is a winner.  That ripped steal against Dixon was awesome.

Jop with the block was a big play.  No idea why he jacks up that 3 late in the game when we needed to kill time.

The first foul of the game wasnt called until almost at that 10 minute mark of the first half.  The number of fouls in the second half was mind numbing.

While I do think Nova is better when they don't just force feed Dixon. Cause they have 3-4 solid players.

He also allowed us to completely erase Dixon until garbage time. They tried next to nothing to get Dixon going.

Sounds like the complaints against Wojo and Markus. Perhaps someone on Villanova needs to write a letter.

That steel was after something bad happened on the other end. I told my wife "don't make Stevie angry, he won't like him when he's angry." (youngsters may not understand that.)
As far as the fouls in the second half go, I'll take blame for that. Toward the end of the first half I said out loud, this game seems to be officiated well.

MUfan12

I'm usually critical of the officiating, but both teams really gave them no choice in the second half. Bad closeouts/footwork and a lot of clear reach-ins.

It was annoying, but had to do a better job of guarding without fouling.

How can someone be so miserable about sports fandom.

I was at the game tonight with my wife. When Stevie got that steal I turned to her and said that's why he's my favorite player on the team.

It seems like every time we need a lift it's Stevie who does something amazing.

Controlled the game from beginning to end. We even won the FT-shooting contest that was much of the second half.

Solid win for the Big East leaders. We Are Marquette!

Tre did a nice job, but I'll give kudos to Lowery and Parham as well. They were equally good if not better tonight.

JamilJaeJamailJrJuan

I haven't watched a ton of Nova this year, but that's not a bad team. A lot of talent. Playing them in Philly won't be easy and if they didn't lay a couple couple non-con eggs, talent-wise, that is definitely a bubble worthy team. Shame they hurt the league like they did in non-con (same with X and others to a lesser degree).

Loved the rebounding by Ben. Not tip outs, but securing the ball in traffic. The next step for him is to not make himself small after grabbing it.

Well played.
