Most depressed I have ever been as an MU fan.  And I can't even imagine what Tyko and the team with Shaka must be feeling right now.  Beyond unlucky and it absolutely sucks.

I just don't understand what people were expecting.

He was never gonna play these last two games. There's no reason too.

Maybe the injury is really really bad. But nothing that's been announced implies one way or the other

The timing on this is not coincidental. Once the door to a share of the league was officially shut yesterday, no sense in dragging it out.

I am having those flashbacks, though I think this is potentially a lot worse.

The 09 team had McNeal, Matthews, and Hayward, and a serviceable backup for James in Maurice Acker.

Kolek really drives this team's offense and , especially with Sean Jones already out, if Kolek can't play in the NCAA tournament this team's ceiling becomes really low.

McNeal and Kam are a wash. This team has a great center but I'd take Wes & Lazar over Jop & Stevie. And Jimmy late season over anybody on the current bench. Don't lose @X and just get right for NCAA tournament no sense in rushing back for a conference tournament if Tyler aggravates the injury.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

I wouldn't read much into this...yet. This isn't very surprising news.

There is zero reason for him to play these next two games.  A 2 or 3 seed in the BET are essentially the same thing. We are basically a 2 or 3 seed in the NCAA as well. Little difference between the two.

Agreed. At worst this just confirms what was already almost guaranteed — that Kolek won't be 100% by this weekend.

Now it's a question of whether he suits up for the BET. With the tournament win from last season in their back pocket, I think they'll be very cautious there too. Obviously he'll he playing in the NCAAT.

Not saying this will happen, it's going to happening, etc., but what if MU loses its next three?  UCONN, X and first round BET. That would be four in a row and would probably drop them to a 4 seed in NCAA?  Not a big seed guy because it is what it is, but just curious to othe'rs thoughts.

Hoping for a close one with UCONN, beat X and take chances in BET without Kolek.  That should be a 3 seed?  Wish Kolek all the best with like three weeks rest and no rust if he comes back.

You're right comparing it to a year where our star PG went down when we were ranked 8th in the nation is a terrible comp. What were we thinking, basically the same as saying the season is over.

Did I say it was a terrible comp?  I just wouldn't get on the ledge yet.

It's been less than 5 days since it happened.  Shaka already said he was feeling significantly better.  Our resume is in good shape.  Maybe it turns out to be the worst-case scenario but that's not where my mind is at right now.

I'm still not sure losing the next 3 drops us to a 4.  I also don't think we lose the next 3, regardless.  I fully expect to win at Xavier.

No flashbacks at all here.

This is a different team - a better one IMHO - and a different circumstance. Plus, we have absolutely no clue whether or not Kolek will be able to play effectively in the NCAA tournament.

A better team?

Unfortunately we will never know, because www.ncaagamesim.com/gamesimulator.asp only goes back to 2009-2010.

Also, bravo to whatever fans out there (likely scoopers) have already run that simulation several times....!!

I still expect them to win against Uconn even without Kolek. I don't see them playing Kolek in the BET either.

Time for a scooper with super confidential sources within the team to share what's really going on.

No source whatsoever, just speculation...

So, Tyler makes an ill-advised statement (requiring a reference to Urban Dictionary) about a St John's defender, clearly with no intent on any overtones of any kind, but it still isn't the kind of thing you want to say in a presser. Keep it to yourself or on the floor as a response to trash talk, and let the refs sort it out. Recent interviews with St John's players about the upcoming Big East Tournament reveal that they cannot wait to possibly face Tyler Kolek and Marquette again (this sentence is a fact).

The league offices don't issue any statement, but some phone calls are made to MU officials to maybe have a word with Tyler about toning down those kinds of responses, along with middle-finger ring pictures. In the meantime, at the Providence game at Fiserv Forum, Tyler is smacked hard just below his eye and is bleeding significantly. This and other  plays throughout the season confirm that Tyler is absolutely NOT a protected player by Big East referees. With another MU high-seed NCAA Tournament bid on the horizon, especially after the previous year where Tyler was rendered ineffective by an injury in the first game of the tournament, the Marquette coaching staff has been mulling over a way to protect Tyler for the now relatively unimportant remainder of the regular season and BET.

Tyler goes back into the Providence game after getting his eye cut worked on and continues to get bumped and hassled a bit, and his coaches have seen enough. He makes a routine pass and subs himself out afterward. He soaks his beat-up frame at home over the ensuing weekend while his teammates play their hearts out in his and Oso's absence.

No way in heck do I really think that either the conference or coaching staff, rather than an actual injury, benched Tyler for 3 games. That said, Kolek doesn't get any favors from refs, and he often becomes a target of opponents' most physical players. And the OP wasn't in teal, so....just sayin'.

If Tyler can get healthy for the Big East Tournament, I sure hope the referees don't tolerate any retribution towards him.

I do not want TK playing in the BET. He has done his regular season work and the team is well positioned for a high seed. Rest up and get ready for a championship run, imo.

The Sultan

Let's not overthink things. The elbow that caused his bleeding v. PC was completely accidental, and the BE doesn't care one bit what Tyler says in press conferences.

As long as the first-round NCAA opponent allows Tyler to hide any rust on his game, Goose, I'm right there with you.

I hear you. I will say that St John most definitely cares, so the only real issue of importance becomes keeping Tyler safe from excessive contact in a BET matchup with SJU.
