MU was 0-8 against ND while I was in school.   David F-ing Rivers.     The only good thing that happened against ND while I was in school was someone accidentally losing control of their beer near Digger.     Beer was a lot cheaper then.    I caught MU-ND in South Bend during in December of 2002.   ND stomped MU.    Not only that, they were handing out sheets full of what they thought were embarrassing things about the MU players.    ND is the school I hate, far more than Wisconsin.        I want to see MU with another 30 point lead and the walk ons finishing the game.

MU maybe beat ND once in my 1987-1991 tenure?
Yeah, I definitely hate ND more than Wisconsin too.  But it's close!
Looking forward to hopeful beat down.

During my first senior year (2013) won an all expense paid trip to the big east tournament and had courtside seats to see us get beat by them in their stupid shamrock shake looking jerseys. Still had a fun trip but I was looking forward to a lot more Marquette games that weekend.

Also my freshman year Shreck the first's buzzer beating three to send the game to OT where they won has always left a bad taste in my mouth.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

I was at that Big East tournament game sitting courtside as well (a buddy's dad worked for a sponsor). That's still my only trip to the Big East tourney. Such a let down.

Although I think I'm gonna go this year and seek my revenge

Anyone still have the old "Marquette #1 Notre Dame (ahem the middle #1)" t shirt? That's something I wish I still did. A little something we say in our house ... FND!!

I have one that says Marquette Basketball on the front and on the back it says "Notre Dame is French for Our B!tch"

I used to wear it all the time and senior year, I think it was actually senior day, 2010 we played them at home and a ND fan came up to me at a bar on third street (probably Buck Bradley's) and asked me to take it off cuz it was offensive. He did not get his wish

I do remember seeing those over the years. Our generation was Marquette #1 on the front (a hand in the number one pose) and Notre Dame on the back with the middle fingered number one. It's a classic

I hate ND. I hate Wisconsin more. Never used to be that way. Walmart Badger, I guess. Regardless...a little hate is...good!

Notre Dame was our top #1 rival by far during my time at MU (the Hank Raymonds years).  That's why Doc Rivers' long buzzer beater was such a great memory.

Oh, and Kelly Tripucka.

Someone stole mine from my apartment a month before graduation.  It just disappeared from my t-shirt drawer.  I was not happy.

Those were great T-shirts. Another one that I loved, not ND related, were the Bob Dukiet farewell tour shirts. Had dates and locations of the last ten games of final season.

Yeah, it could be argued that it's both misogynistic and anti-Catholic.

Plenty of better ways to insult the Domers.
Have some patience, FFS.

Lighten up, Sally. All insults are fair game with ND.

But are you really insulting Domers, or women and Catholics?

If we played Yeshiva University, would it be okay to wear a T-shirt that says, "Moses is my butt buddy?"

I am not being defensive; I am just a little surprised that you wouldn't get it.

Nah, don't "chill out." You're absolutely right: that t-shirt should be mothballed. High tolerance for student humor, but that one is embarrassing. Offensive and not even clever. We're not Wisconsin Walmart.

That said, loved the #1 one back in the day. Funny and cutting.

Relatedly, some of Wisconsin's school-sponsored student signs and some of the chants ("unnatural carnal knowledge Marquette") in Madison on Saturday were shameful. Alas, the Kohl hole is just that. Low brow humor by some low class fans. And, of course, that made getting our asses handed to us that much more painful.

I get it. You're saying that real chili has butt buddies.

Does anyone who attended Marquette after the 70s and 80s really care about Notre Dame?   I know in the 90s I was told they were a rival but it never felt like that big of a rivalry.   I'd rate ND well below Wisconsin and many Big East teams on the rivalry scale.

Or maybe you have to be from Chicago to care?

WellsstreetWanderer

We loathed ND back in the Al days as well. Cared more about beating them than even the Badgers

tower912

I get that.   I never considered Wisconsin a rival because they always stunk and the game always took place during winter break.  It wasn't until internet message boards that I developed a dislike of the Badgers.    But, because we played ND twice a season and and were 0-8 while I was at MU, my hatred of them is deeper and more long lasting.

Was at a Marquette - ND game in Milwaukee and there were a bunch on ND women fans with tshirts that said: Notre Dame sucks...but Marquette swallows.

Wow

I hate ND for lots of reasons.  I was looking for graduate schools and went to tour ND.  The priest who took us around was smug and arrogant.   Then, sitting around 8n a room he asked each in the tour what university they were graduating from.    I said Loyola University in  Chicago, and he basically rolled his eyes and grunted or something so I defended Loyola.   Then he quote ps this poem that makes a point that sometimes things are like a diamond in the rough.  He quotes a stanza and he is wrong on the quote.  Way off.  I knew the poem, by Thomas Gray, and I corrected him by reciting  the full stanza and he says, "Apparently they teach literature at Loyola."  I got up and said, "apparently better than they do at Norte Dame!"  And I walked out.   Went to Marquette!  Go Marquette!
