Don't get me wrong, I don't think the presidents are blameless here. But the NCAA should have taken a lead here...and they just didn't.  But my point to Lennys was that, had the NCAA done so, I think the presidents could have been convinced.
That's fair.

What do expect the coaches could have or can do with any of this stuff? As I asked before, do you think if even Coach K threaten to resign if players were not paid or given NIL that the college presidents would change their positions?

Maybe some would find it to be a hart warming gesture and get warm and fuzzies about Coach K, but that is it.

I think assigning any blame to the coaches is like blaming captains in the Army about a decision to go to war.

Since my post initiated this, I do think that coaches can have significant sway because they are the ones who are in front of the media after every game. 30-40 times per year, Tony Bennett has a platform that most administrators simply don't have. Even if he started by talking about how unfair it is that other students could earn money while his players were restricted from doing the same, the ability to start the conversation was there. As Sultan points out, the NCAA had laughable solutions in the face of tangible legal challenges when it came to fighting against players being able to earn money. Having their most prominent public figures calling for change would've made it more clear and present for both the general public and for the athletes involved.

People like Bennett, K, Roy, Boeheim, etc were voices in the room that had the ear of the public, the administrators, and the athletes. Just one of them repeating what Al said in the 1970s about Jim Chones' refrigerator would've expanded the conversation. Those front-facing voices have a lot more power than people sometimes give them credit. Would the Illinois AD have cared initially about what Tony Bennett said? Maybe not. But when his boosters, his athletes, and even his own coach started to say the same as someone prominent like Bennett gave it light, he may not have had a choice in whether or not he cared.

At this point, I don't think we can consider the NCAA's reaction to NIL & the transfer market the past decade to be anything other than an abject failure. It isn't solely the fault of the coaches who are retiring, but they didn't help matters either.

All makes sense to me. Just a simple disagreement of the amount of influence the coaches have in the process. I don't think it can be objectively quantified by any means, so we move on.

Ah yes, the "source" that an MU athletic department employee replied to when he claimed Tyler Kolek was ineligible because he couldn't read.

Add the twitter username @RealRobReinhart to the Simon Charles list as well everyone. Another fake account.

Only Ed Cooley could invoke Martin Luther King Jr. to address a silly parody tweet. This guy is truly insufferable.

I can't believe a media member fell for the post and failed to vet it before asking Mr. Cooley.
