Well that sucks.

Why don't just they start the semester a week earlier then.

Modern Senior week is nothing like it was when I graduated. No Brewers game, no Senior Ball, very few organized events.  So far, I think the parents are more upset than the students and are saying things like, "Once again, the Class of 2024 is getting the shaft".
Have some patience, FFS.

MurphysTillClose

Seniors organize a lot on their own outside of MU sponsored events, and have for a while. I feel for next year's class. This is an unfortunate decision because it's fun - even without a brewers game or senior ball.

MUfan12

That stinks. We had a blast with senior week, and really only did one of the sanctioned events.

From the University's standpoint, the whole purpose of senior week was to print diplomas and make sure everyone who is on the floor graduating did, in fact, graduate.

For students, it's a blast. It's a time to let some steam off and to say goodbye -- for now -- to some MU friendships. It's nice interlude between campus life and real life.

I had a ball that week and it's sad that tradition is ending. Really sad.

What from I understood...

Senior Ball was earlier in the semester.  I think there was a Brewers game this year (always depends on sked) and this year a overnight camp was offered.

There is a sterilization of MU that has continued to go on since DiUlio.  I get wanting to invest in the physical landscape and make it look better but not everything has to be Campustown.  And that goes not just for bricks & mortar but for everything.

Maybe the students are changing as well, and it's not that big of a deal, but I agree.

But to say this was done to help with post grad plans is silly. I have hired new grads for a decade and 95% of them have wanted to start 6/15 or later. Very few want to start right away.

Organized activities were a big nothingburger in 2023

Kids should just hang out in their apartments for another week and party.

Have some patience, FFS.

Our senior week ended May 9th. I went looking for an apartment in my new hometown May 11th; dropped some stuff off May 13th and drove home to get the crap I left at my parents May 15th. I started work May 26th.

I suspect maybe the students didn't want it or didn't care and the university didn't want to incur the expense.

Not surprising. Not many places do senior week any longer.

If the organized activities were not well attended, you adjust the activities not bomb the week.

From our interns, friends' kids and my nephew...this past senior week was incredible.  I don't think any of them did the school stuff but they all had the time of their lives.

I'm sure advancement is thrilled.

My kid just had Senior week at Xavier that included a Reds game, a Cincinnati bar crawl and a few other events.

I vaguely remember Senior week because I had too much fun.  I know it included a bus trip with a keg to a Cubs game and dinner other stuff

As others have said, I really needed that week to decompress after my final finals and come to grips that college was done and life changes were coming.  One last week of blow out fun with good friends that I won't ever be able to spend time like this again.

"To give graduates more time.....". That's just malarkey.

There were "organized activities"? If the school sponsors those then of course they were lame

We took a bus to Arlington race track, a brewers tailgate/game, a booze cruise on the river/lake, a camping trip, and a bar crawl during our senior week. Total blast

I'm amending my post in what place  have you had the most drinks to be "senior week". People told me I had fun that week.  ;D

ChitownSpaceForRent

Senior week was great. I was drunk for an entire week.

My most vivid memory was senior ball was at Poto, at some point every single guy made their way to the black jack table and all of their girlfriends were standing, waiting for them to finish visibly annoyed.

I'm noticing a theme in this topic.

And one that's not really giving Marquette reason to second-guess this decision.
