I saw this article about a classic Chrysler and was wondering what was your first car? When my mom got a new car I was given her 1959 Nash Rambler wagon; not fancy, but my friends always asked me to drive when we went to the beach. It was the only vehicle that all our beach gear would fit in.

First car - 1974 Plymouth Scamp that my brother and I were given when I got my license and my grandmother bought a new car.  (She got a world famous Dodge Omni.). Scamp was great as the windows in front and back rolled all the way down and there was no bar between so the side was wide open.
Underbelly rusted out.

1984 Chevy Citation as a high-mileage hand me down driven into the ground first by my parents and then by my two older brothers. What a piece a crap that thing was.

Drivers license in summer of 85. Hand me down 1977 Camaro, silver. Sounds better than it looked. Older brother kind of destroyed it.

The Sultan

1980 Toyota Corolla station wagon. Wrecked it two years after my graduation from MU.

Had some better cars since

Worst Car and it is not close a 86 VW Jetta that I bought new.  Head liner dropped on me while I was going down the freeway after one year, belt never stopped squealing dealer was less than helpful

Swore off anything VW forever after that car.  Never surprised to see VW at bottom of satisfaction rankings

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

BrewCity83

Maroon 1969 Mustang coupe.  Got it in high school for $700 when it was about 8-9 years old.  After that one in the summer after high school (1979) I got a red '68 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a white rag top for my MU years.

1980 datsun 310 with 150k miles on it for $200 in 1990.  Lasted 10 years.  One of the best buys I ever made.

VW and Audi are well known as unreliable.  People love them, but they shouldn't.  Same with Jeep.

Audi has gotten A LOT better.  10-12 years ago I'd agree, but people I know with recent Audis have have loved them and not had any real issues.

VW, I think it depends on the model.  We've had a VW Crossport for 18 months with no issues.  Same with other people I know with the SUVs.  Jettas and other sedans could be a different issue.

Reliable, simple.  Sold my Yamaha 400 CC motorcycle at end of summer and bought the Ventura with cash from the sale.

I guess Audi is sort of mid tier, but they're still just fancy VWs  8-)

I'll let other people give VW another chance.  I'd drive past 15 VW dealers to the Yugo dealer before I buy another one.

In 1981 I took over driving my Mom's 1974 Malibu Classic. Had a couple more hand me down cars and first car I ever bought was KO's old Ford Explorer. He put on about 10k miles and I had that SUV for about 5-6 years. I think I bought it in 1990 or 1991.

Ha! Not good. No mullet though. Don't even know if there is a name for it.
