Or he could be the scapegoat when a defense that's losing most of its starters, including its entire front four, regresses. Ohio State churns five stars, so maybe not as big a loss as it would be for a lot of teams, but it would be a surprise if they didn't take a step back next year.

The SEC/Big 10 takeover begins.

Leaders of the two leagues are meeting this week in New Orleans, where they're expected to push forward with a full-on takeover of the College Football Playoff. Beginning in 2026, the field would expand to 14 or 16 teams, and the Power 2 would grant themselves four automatic berths each. The ACC and Big 12 would get two, the Group of 5 one, leaving just one or three at-larges.

Hypothetically, what would happen if the ACC, Big 12, Notre Dame and the Group of 5 said "nope" and threatened to do their own thing?

Also, how long until they leverage this into college basketball?

Great questions.

I'd guess this will add a lot more fuel to the fire of FSU, Miami, Clemson and UNC getting out of the ACC.

While I don't like the consolidation of college sports because I enjoy the relatively large and diverse number of teams and all the engaged fans of all the schools; I believe I'm in the minority and consolidation creates better economics for the P2 and TV.  Also, 30 teams seems to be a sweet spot for other pro sports.

I agree with you, WT. Except I'm not so sure that we are in the minority.

Stanford fired football coach Troy Taylor, the school announced Tuesday.
The decision comes a week after ESPN reported that two outside firms had found Taylor bullied and belittled female athletic staffers, sought to have an NCAA compliance officer removed after she warned him of rules violations and repeatedly made "inappropriate" comments to another woman about her appearance.

In other news: Michigan State has hire the former Stanford football HC Troy Taylor. Michigan States AD said " Troy exactly fits the mold of what it means to be a Spartan".

While this is all likely true, cynic in me also says its an inexpensive way for them to be rid of a coach who stunk it up his first 2 years.

If Stanford's accusations are not factual, then Taylor is setup for a windfall of money.

If your goal is to not promote from within, someone like him is likely fine. If they hire the guy full time after this year? Well, that would be dumb.

Just seems like punting on 2026 (and the 2026 recruiting class) as well as 2025.

This Belichick thing at UNC is not going to end well.

Pretty confident before the season starts in the fall that we're gonna find out the whole cutesy random chance meeting on a plane that started their relationship is either an outright fabrication at best, or cover for something a bit more lurid at worst.

Either way, it wouldn't be encouraging at all if I was a UNC booster.
