No one in the NFL wants him because he is 72 years old, difficult to work with, and his systems from an NFL standpoint are now outdated.

UNC wants him, because his name brings eyeballs, $$$, and recruits.

The important hiring points in the two leagues are just different.

So Marshall won their conference championship game last weekend, only to see their coach leave for Southern Miss, the last place team in the same conference. (His contract was ending in January and they didn't want to extend it last offseason.) Now they have to pull out of the Independece Bowl because 25+ players have entered the portal, many of whom will wind up at Southern Miss.

Sun Belt champion Marshall withdraws from their bowl game after having 36 players enter the portal and their head coach bailing for Southern Miss.

I understand the concerns fans have over the portal opening before bowls, but lawsuits would be filed since it would prevent kids from transferring for the spring semester. There's not a good solution to this issue for college football.

It doesn't matter if the portal officially opens or not. Players who are intending to transfer are going to opt out and head home for the holidays.

Oh and finding a replacement might be fun. The game is in two weeks, and players haven't practiced in a couple of weeks and are likely sitting at home.

Apparently they ignored the rule that 5-7 teams be invited by APR, and just went with Louisiana Tech because they are local.

These teams stink

If they are gonna do a playoff for entertainment purposes and let teams with no chance of winning it all participate they have got to re format immediately

Let Oregon play Indiana their first game like a true #1 should be rewarded.
