Yes, and OSU and PU were down those years.  And in 2011, OSU was 7-6.  In 2012, OSU was 12-0 but ineligible for the championship game (Wisconsin was 8-6, 4-4 in conference).

"Indiana almost did so this very year."  - Highly fluke / rare unbalanced schedule of IU, and they will also likely be in the bottom 8 each year.  Will not repeat after getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

Taking into account the fact I hate absolute statements and to somewhat concede to Hippie argument, anything is possible (i.e. Loyola in the Final 4). Also, my position was never intended to make a blanket statement UW or UofI or Miss will never win, but to assert that practically speaking, the chances of those programs winning a conference have been diminished to the point where they are realistically playing for 4th (or there abouts) most every year. The chances of OSU, PSU, Michigan having down years is far greater than OSU, PSU, Mich, USC and Oregon all having down years.

Also, I hear, but don't know enough to comment on, that schools like UW and Illinois don't have the NIL backing to compete with the elite programs.

Can you imagine if he brings along Matt Patricia?

I agree with you.  I don't see the fit.

Trying to picture the hoodie recruiting, dealing with NIL, and the portal.

Failing miserably.

To add, if part of the deal is to make Stephen the head coach in waiting, it makes the hire even worse.

Like I said, I get this from Bill's perspective. I have no idea why UNC thinks this is a good idea.

Michael Lombardi, who at best has had a checkered history as a personnel executive, is going to be his GM. His only college experience is with UNLV when Randall Cunningham played there.

Maybe he'll get Bill Parcells to come in to rap with the freshman players on Satuday nights?

Nope.

I will also not be surprised when UNC is looking for a new coach a year from now.

Based on his girlfriend, he does seem to be solidly recruiting those in their 20s.

IMO, Having his son become head coach is the point.

FWIW, Belichick was 249-85 with Brady as his starting quarterback, and 84-93 with anybody not named Tom Brady as his starting QB.

That doesn't mean he always failed without Brady. He made the playoffs once in Cleveland, he guided the Patriots to an 11-5 record in 2008 after Brady got hurt in the opener, and he had a winning record and playoff berth when Mac Jones was a rookie.

But I happen to still think his Brady/non-Brady disparity is relevant to his pro record.

How any of it does or doesn't translate to his ability to coach in college ... who knows? But even with the Covid year, I don't think Brady has eligibility left.

Love the Brady v Belichick debate. Great for BSing about football and sports. Belichick w/o Brady is not impressive for sure, but you have to admit Brady was not "great" his first 4-5 years but won. I remember comments about how great Belichick was to be able to win a SB with a QB like Brady.

When they showed on Saturday that Marquette had crossed out the "W" on Wisconsin Avenue street signs, I thought "did we not learn a lesson from this?"

Now I don't know if that was an actual Marquette thing, or a Fox thing.

It was a MU thing as the MU facebook page put up on game day and was promoting. Ive been to the OSU campus and saw all of the Ms x'd out, including over "optometrist." Lets not get that insane.
