Quote from: The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole on December 07, 2024, 08:54:06 PMSouth Carolina blew late leads to both LSU and Alabama. They'd be in the playoffs had they closed out one of them.

They aren't one of the 12 best teams and shouldn't have been in in my opinion, but would've been interested to see what they would've done with Mizzou if they had held on to win at South Carolina after going up 3 with 1:15 left in the game. Got smoked by A&M and Bama, that would've been their best win. But a 2 loss SEC team?

Quote from: PGsHeroes32 on December 07, 2024, 08:56:45 PMLanning is a fantastic coach.

But that was INSANE coaching. I have no idea what he was thinking.

Offense moving the ball at will all game. The get it to like the 25 with 40 seconds left and 3 time outs. Penn State calls time out to catch their breath.

Oregon runs it, perfectly fine since they have 3 time outs and they can run it great. But.....they get 3 yards. Don't call a time out. Let it run for 20 seconds then rush throw a fade into end zone.

14 seconds with 3rd and 9. PSU another time out. Oregon TO to counter. Call a screen. Wind up with a field goal. There is nothing on earth that could make that strategy make sense.

Other than that tho.

Crazy how Well Oregon's offense is humming.

Don't want to hear SMU whining if they're left out.

Not sure how you fix a year long issue

But if Oregon wants to finally win a natty in a year where the SEC is down. Gonna have to stop the run in some fashion.

This whole "modern analytics" thing with going for 2, do college teams realize that NFL has different rules?

There's a much bigger difference to a 33 yard extra point. ANd one that kids wearing special helmets were kicking in gym class.

PGsHeroes32

I just don't get why(almost every team) does this.

Oregon up 8 with 4? min left. Completely abandon the offense that has driven downfield all game. To run twice up the middle and "kill clock" then throw to nowhere and punt?

Uhhhh why not just keep running what's got you 45 pts?

Penn State just bombed it for a INt so Oregon wins. But still very strange.

Quote from: DegenerateDish on December 07, 2024, 08:19:24 PMDidn't see it until now because I was driving to the MU game this morning, but who knew Chalamet was a brilliant college football expert. Dude knows ball.

My first thought on hearing he was the guest picker was "WTF".  I know he's got the Dylan movie coming out but the PR hasn't been crazy for it.  But man he was great.

I saw people hating online like "oh he was reading off cards, people did research for him"...no crap.  So do all the other dudes at the desk.  You think Herbie knows all the stats about UNLV's slot receiver off the dome? The way he spoke about it and chatted about nuances, the dude clearly likes college football or he's LITERALLY the best actor since Brando and spent the last week memorizing stuff. Either way, I think the entirety of America was pleasantly surprised. And not to Chicos it up, but between my sister and 2 of my wife's cousins who went to HS with him at LaG/have mutual friends with him on the West Side of Manhattan, he's actually a pretty chill bro which kind of aggressively opposes the smug theater kid vibe he came on the scene with

There are also different overtime rules as well.

Championship Saturday recap.  Many of these results help and hurt the Marquette and Big East cause:

Big 18: Oregon 45 Penn State 37- Deapite joining a big boy league with rigid academic standards and hard-nosed football won in the trenches, the fancy boys from the west coast managed to go undefeated and win the league.

ACC: Clemson sneaks into the dance with a win over long time ACC rival, SMU.  No word on how many prostitutes died as a result of this outcome.

Sun Belt: Marshall 31 Louisiana 3 - Marshall's coach left to take the Southern Miss job. Congrats on the title.

SEC: Georgia 22 Texas 19 - Texas loses the bye to a QB named Gunnar in a stunning upset.

Big XII: Arizona State 45 Iowa State 19 - The Sun Devils win their first league title since Jake Plummer was QB.  This is a stupid league.

MAC: Ohio 38 Miami (OH) 3 - Ohio lost its coach to Charlotte. Congrats on the title.

Mountain West: Boise State 21 UNLV 7 - UNLV lost the game and its coach.  Boise gets a bye before joining the Pac-8/10/12.

AAC: Army 35 Tulane 14:  Good news for the AAC, none of the coaches in this game have taken another job yet.

Conference USA: Jacksonville State 52 Western Kentucky 12: Jacksonville isn't a state, nor is it in Florida.

Jacksonville is indeed a state - a state of mind. Usually involving Busch Light, firearms, and bad decisions.

Did Herby just say Ohio State would've preferred a road game so their fans don't boo Ryan Day? Lol.

Playoff needs some tweaking

The fact Penn State sans a bye has a astronomically better draw than Oregon is hilarious

Yes, if I'm Texas, Clemson, SMU, or Penn State, I'm licking my chops. The easiest routes to the semifinals is through Arizona State and Boise State.

I think the field is right. If you're looking to improve the process, introduce re-seeding or a draft where the protected seeds can select

The Tennessee loss was excusable. But all they had to do was beat Vanderbilt OR Oklahoma.

So the Belichick to UNC looks like it may be real...but also exceedingly strange with the chair of the board being the primary driver - he was not one of the AD's initial candidates.
