Big loss for the conference. I wonder if Fox has sent over a huge deal to his agent to replace Lavin.

Hey he didn't go on a months long farewell tour a la Coach K.  Can this still be considered a legit retirement?

ESPN reporting Kyle Neptune is the new coach. One year at Fordham with a 16-16 record, but 10 years as Villanova assistant before that.

I think he does TV for a year or two and then takes over for Greg Gard after Gard gets the Knicks job

Huge loss.  Irreplaceable.  I hope he doesn't have a health issue.

Jay Wright is first-class all the way.  Everything you’d want a college coach to be.   Tough day fir Nova and the Big East.

Now this is a disaster for college hoops and I think NIL may be the culprit. I've heard rumors that Wright was the most outspoken coach against NIL in the Big East.  May not be interested in playing that game

Sure it is.  But college hoops will endure and someone else will rise to take Jay's place as top coach

Right. So it’s not a disaster. It’s how things always operate. Good coaches retire. New coaches rise up.

That's an interesting point.  Maybe I'm right and Wright agrees with my analysis .  :)

He did a hell of a job at Fordham considering what he took over.

NIL is the culprit. He is upset he has to be stuck with the  best class in 2022.

2018- 9

Thank you, Coach Wright.  For being the embodiment of class.   Nothing but respect for you.   Enjoy your well earned retirement.

Dude is 60 and has done things at Villanova that will be hard for any replacement to replicate.  Life’s too short to be grinding on the sideline until you’re a corpse.

Amen.  Wife and I were talking about this yesterday.  Good on him for walking away when he's still young enough to enjoy his retirement and life.  Good riddance to the bitter clingers, good job Jay Wright.  Go have fun, man.

Too many successful college coaches are afraid to be Bear Bryant.  Retire and die a month later.

I hope he stays retired and gets into TV.  I think he’d be great at it.  My hunch is, he’s coaching again in a few years as someone will make him a godfather offer, looking at you Kentucky

That's all fine,  I don't think jay's public comments mean he privately hasn't expressed frustration with the new landscape.  Being good for the sport and being preferred by Wright are two different things

Hey Rico,

Not to bring up Al to you, but he was the ultimate retire, IMO. Stepped away at 47 and never looked back. I have one gripe with Jay Wight's decision, I am two years younger than he is and looking at another ten years of work and I am jealous. Truthfully, I do not jealous bone in my body, and I hope he has a more successful and fun retirement than he the 21 years he spent at Nova.

Al burned pretty hot, so his retirement made a lot of sense.  No way he survived another decade coaching.  I think it says a lot about Al and Jay to leave sooner than later

You should have tsmith manage your portfolio.   He's never been wrong.

And I wish you luck in retiring in 5-8 years, not 10.
