He was good, but nobody deserved it over Jeremy Strong. I'd slot him after Odenkirk but ahead of Bateman.*

I really would have like to see Rhea Seahorn win for supporting actress, but honestly I view Julia Garner's performance in the same light as Jeremy Strong's -- nobody deserved the Emmy over Garner.

*I see Bateman wasn't nominated. Makes sense (to me, at least). In light of the actual nominees, I would put Lee Jung-jae dead last.

Bateman was a nominee in actor for best drama category.  He and Laura Linney have been nominated for many years and each has not won.  Bateman has won previously for best directing an Ozark episode.  I was hoping either would win for their last season, but the Emmys have turned truly political/social over past years.  Has to be a first_______ and a first_____, otherwise the protests start.

No first_____ was going to beat Julia Garner though.  I will miss the Ozark show.

Bateman is always good and I thought he had his best season. But I still expected Strong to win.

Julia Garner is marvelous but I was rooting for Seahorn.

So what you're saying is that it's political unless someone is more deserving?

I can't believe I haven't mentioned it yet, but my favorite show currently on TV right now may be Industry on HBOMax.

Season 1 was entertaining, but I think a portion of that was just a factor of my Anglophile/London loving personality enjoying another slickly shot show in London, combined with my interest in financial markets.  Add a sprinkle of debauchery and substance abuse and a phenomenal soundtrack, and it was a fun little watch.

Well Season 2 stripped away a lot of the surface fun and became an absolutely new animal in terms of writing, emotion, and much heavier subject matter.  Jay Duplass' character is fantastically written and compelling and I find myself eagerly anticipating each week's episode like I did with Succession.  I don't think its as good as Succession, but its marvelous.  There are some excellent performances by otherwise unknown young British actors/actresses.

I'll check it out next - just finishing Peaky Blinders.

An outstanding show (as you said when you recommended it). A couple quick comments:

1. Best Soundtrack ever for a TV show. And it's not even close.

2. The acting was outstanding across the board, but Murphy and McCrory were especially outstanding. Even as you could see the physical effects of McCrory's cancer, her acting chops never diminished.

3. The show brought to mind two other shows that I liked a lot. Deadwood, in feel and tone - and Sons of Anarchy (another great soundtrack) in the story line and the inevitability of disaster ahead.

Too lazy to scroll back but has anyone seen "City on a Hill" on SHO? Kevin Bacon plays an ethically challenged FBI agent in the 1990s Boston. Kind of stumbled on it but find it very enjoyable.

Also, I've mentioned this before but Laura Linney is married to a guy (Marc Schauer) who lived about 5 doors down from me in McCormick freshman year. They have a place in Litchfield County, Connecticut and I was able to reconnect with him through Facebook about 10-15 years ago. I think she is an extremely talented performer.

It's all personal preference so I never complain about award shows. That said, watched 4 of the series nominated for best drama and my ranking of them was as follows:

1. Better Call Saul - best series since Breaking Bad
2. Ozark - compelling but getting a little tired - we'll crafted ending.
3 (Tie) Succession - well written and acted, but (to me) too repetitive. And there was nobody to root for - every character is goofy, evil or both).
Stranger Things - unbelievable, kids got way too old - but they were fun to cheer on.

Mrs. 82 and I really like City on a Hill. Bacon is not only really good in that role, but he looks like he's having a blast playing a total dirtball. Most of the other acting is quite good, too.

I agree with City on a Hill. Bacon has been outstanding. I'm waiting for this season to finish airing (same as the Chi) before viewing it so my thoughts are based on the previous seasons.

I totally agree, and said so. They are a diversion, a conversation piece. They are like college football and basketball polls ... and some might argue like college football and basketball themselves.

Really amazing it has taken folks so long to get into Peaky. It had me hooked during the opening scene of episode 1 when Tommy rode the thoroughbred into Chinatown. Worth watching just to listen to Nick Cave.
Cillian Murphy will be staring as Robert Oppenheimer in a flick by Christopher Nolan coming out next year.

A show worth checking out on Starz is The Girlfriend Experience -at least season 1. Lots of sex but it works. The star, Riley Keough, is really something. After watching several episodes I decided to check out what else she has been in and discovered -she's Elvis' grand daughter!

Doing a Sopranos rewatch for the first since it aired originally.

It truly is the greatest show ever, with apologies to The Wire.

Mikey Palmice is an underrated character in that first season.

I like both so far, but I do not like waiting between episodes.

StillAWarrior

I had actually have never seen the LoTR movies, so I'm holding off on watching the new series. I watched the first LoTR movie the weekend before last. I'll work through the movies in the next couple weeks or so, then I'm going to start the series.
