The opener and the monologue are usually the worst because they force an unfunny skit to hit on current events. When it gets weird, it gets better. For the last several years, that was usually the final half hour when they'd have a random Beck Bennett/Kyle Mooney skit. This year, really enjoying the Please Don't Destroy guys and Sarah Sherman. Strong season overall.

Edit: The Lizzo episode had a 3 skit run that was fantastic. The game show where she became the host, the Black Eyed Peas, and the TikTok montage. Stood out to me because I'm not usually laughing at 3 in a row.

I liked much of the Lizzo episode. She kept cracking up, and that was part of the charm. Even though I like her music, her numbers this time weren't very good IMHO.

Some of the current events skits are funny, some certainly aren't. The guy who imitates both Biden and Trump is pretty darn good. The countdown thing he does is usually hilarious. But we all have different tastes, so I get where you're coming from.

Meanwhile ...

Just got caught up on both Barry and Better Call Saul. The 5 minutes or so on Barry where he was on the phone with the customer service rep for the bomb app was incredibly funny. BCS stayed mostly with Jimmy and Kim this episode, and I really liked it.

George Carlin documentary on HBO is an interesting watch.  I’m guessing he had a very high IQ.

I would say that most successful comedians are pretty smart.

Just watched the new Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers movie on Disney+. Awesome late-80s/early-90s nostalgia. So many easter eggs and fan service moments from so many different sources of material. It's got something for everyone that has been a child in the last 50 years.

Which successful comedians have only performed using other people's jokes?

I remember like 15 years ago my kids were watching reruns on the Disney Channel.  They were laughing because Chip was smoking in one episode and one of them wore an Indiana Jones jacket with no pants.

I don’t think a month goes by that I don’t somehow sing or say “CH CH CH CHIP AND DALE” sometimes adding the Rescue Rangers after, sometimes not…

I guess it depends on the definition of comedian.  Carson, Fallon, Steve Martin (just off the top of my pea brain) have writers.
Was Bob Hope a comedian?  He had a script.

Reminds me .. I liked HBO's series called "Hacks" .. which was about a woman comedian hiring a writer.

Carson wasn't a comedian, but he was a funny guy.  Jimmy Fallon and Steve Martin have written plenty of funny stuff on their own.

It's back on, 4 episodes into season 2. Still very good.

Good show. Obviously inspired by Joan Rivers, right down to the QVC hawking, the file cabinets full of jokes, and the needy daughter.

Other than the big downgrade from Bob Hoskins to the sidekick this time around (both in writing and acting), I thought it holds up well as a new Roger Rabbit. Very pleasantly surprised.

Especially given that she's a novice actor, Hannah Einbinder is outstanding as Ava. I would think she'd be a natural to host SNL, as she's Laraine Newman's daughter. Could even bring back Laraine to be in a skit or two!

Just finished Ozark. What a very Soprano-esque ending. I'm kinda glad it's over.

Going to move on to Hacks next though I'm pushing for the George Carlin documentary first though.

BCS, gonna be a tough wait for 6 weeks.

Saw something like that coming. But still, wow.

Definitely did not deserve that outcome.

Gonna tell you ... I did not see that coming.

Best episode of the season IMHO, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how Gilligan, Odenkirk and the rest wrap things up.

Agree totally. Seehorn's been great for several seasons now; maybe she'll finally get that very overdue Emmy.

Ha I should clarify.

What I saw coming with certainty was the prank completely backfiring. And I had a strong feeling it would roll over into the cartel plot. That had been my theories for weeks.

But I did not see it coming the way the full episode played out. Incredible stuff.

I thought the whole Howard scam was terrible.  Then the pay off came and it worked.
