Mods need to dig into their pockets for that $4M MUScoop endorsement deal.

Joplin will be ready to step in and play a similar role.

No one replaces what Justin has brought this season though.
Joplin looks like a stud in the making.
While who wouldn't want Justin back, looking forward to getting Joplin lots of minutes next season!

Wojo does strike me as a coach who would read a fans message board. Though no way he would start a parody Twitter account

Lewis has gotten so much better this year, but he has a ways to go. I hope he stays at Marquette to graduate. He will always cherish playing at Marquette for the test of his life. Just think how good he'll be next year and the year after.  The money will be there in two more years.

Do any current players have any deals regarding NIL?
I think they are getting a percentage of their sold jerseys, correct?

Justin Lewis has stepped up his game to a very high level and I hope he gets money next year, either NIL or playing pro. Good news, I am 100% confident that MU can be competitive in the NIL game. I said earlier this season, only having to get money for ten guys is a lot easier than supporting football and basketball. Who knows, maybe an old friend of the program makes a return and gets the ball rolling.

I thinks he’s definitely gone, BUT,

Staying another year to improve your stock and be a lottery pick becomes a lot easier to stomach for a family when a kid can make 500K in endorsements during that bonus year of college.  NIL will keep some kids because it’s no longer all or nothing.

Also, 500K is an absurd dollar amount for a player or Justin’s profile.  It will definitely need to be a booster with loose pockets.  Top Green Bay Packers don’t pocket 500K / annually in local marketing.

in the past, sure. But now NBA execs look at you as inferior if you didn't come out as a freshman or sophomore.

That last sentence is rather cryptic Goose.  I hope you are right again.

I have no idea how NIL works but if this team re-created the 1977 team photo I'd pay good money for it if I knew the money went to the players.

When Rowsey was playing, I wanted to get his jersey, but I found out you could not get a jersey with a current player's number. Now you can. With the new NIL rules do the players get a cut of their jersey sales?

i just struggle with the idea of paying a student that’s getting a very very expensive education for free. Yes, MU benefits from a guy like Lewis’ basketball talents. And Lewis benefits by getting his education paid. If my thinking is archaic, old school? Maybe so. And yes, I realize NIL is the current and future path in college athletics. But, programs located in certain regions where commercial pursuits are not great will be hurt. Survival of the fittest, I suppose. As for Lewis going pro/my happiness…selfishly I hope he comes back next season. I think MU will be really good. And, not sure I see Lewis being nba caliber, just yet. Close, for sure. But again, I’m not a scout and commenting from a stay-so-MU-is-good perspective.

My father, God rest his soul, used to make a funny by pointing out that people keep letting money interfere with their decision making.

The days of a VERY talented college hooper staying 4 years are over.  The siren call of megabucks is out there. Justin has blossomed and still has upside potential. I don't have any idea of what his or his family's circumstances are, but I know damn well that when I was a college soph and somebody had offered a deal where I got millions I'd have had to send someone back to pack my bags because I would have left so fast.

The only thing that will bring him back is the possibility of moving up in the draft next year (which would come with a more favorable [$$$$} deal. Even then, he'd need an insurance policy to protect him against an injury.

If he goes, God bless. He'll deserve whatever he gets.
If he stays, Goddamn, we could be a force!
