5 retired firefighters I knew.
My firefighter's mother died last June.
My driver's stepmother died last November.

Skatastrophy

My uncle who lives in Memphis. The last time we were in Paris a server mentioned that he liked butter more than anyone she had ever met. He was not the youngest or healthiest guy, but still taken too soon.

A 30-year-old friend here in Chicago when she got it the 2nd time. Perfectly healthy before that.

At least 5-10 clients over the past year.

None thankfully, but a very good friend was touch and go for awhile.

Warriors4ever

One friend - she had health issues but they aren't what killed her.
At least three people I know lost a father.

The Sultan

A couple friends have had parents who have died from it.  A distant friend's son did too.  But no one I know directly.  I know about a handful who have been hospitalized.

One, my uncle (technically my mom's first cousin) passed away from it.
I know of others but not really close to the family.

mu_hilltopper

Cousin's father in law, who we saw every Christmas.

Also a cousin, who didn't die of COVID but didn't have mental health help when it might have saved his life.

At least one Scooper.

One of my friend's parents whom I had never met.

I had a several high school/college friends who announced on Facebook that they had lost a parent, but didn't specify a cause.  Statistically speaking, some of them probably died of COVID.

That's it, fortunately.

Have some patience, FFS.

JWags85

My uncle's best friend had been in poor health for a bit and unfortunately contracted COVID and passed away in the fall.

On the other hand, one of my good family friends in Belgium had their father, in his 80s and a lifetime smoker, hospitalized with COVID and made a full recovery.  My grandma's 90 year old neighbor in Florida also contracted COVID, was hospitalized as a precaution due to age, but survived just fine and was happily chatting up people at the pool last month when we visited.

I cannot think of one person I know who even contracted it.

jsglow

I know many that contracted it.....
Only a subset of them were actually officially diagnosed and counted in the statistics......

My list is the same as chick's and am grateful for that.

naginiF

I've known:
- dozens that have tested positive (>50)
- ~10-15 that were symptomatic
- 2 that have died, both in the 'social acquaintance' category

Galway Eagle

None thankfully. Four hospitalized, my sister, brother in law, fiancé's dad & fiancé's brother's fiancé. Only one that was actually close to dying was my brother in law.

Thankfully that's it. Whereas one of my fiancé's best friends has lost an entire branch of her family from Covid

Zero. I have a coworker/friend who is definitely going to be a long hauler but thankfully nobody has passed away.

pacearrow02

For those who know multiple people who have gotten it.  Any common risk fuel behaviors?  Anti-maskers, front line workers, etc?

The Sultan

Most of the people I know who had it, contracted it last fall letting their guard down in risky situations (small, informal gatherings) OR claim to have no idea how they got it.

Ditto with the addition of "we just thought it was unfair to have the kids skip the winter vacation in ________ after that year".

For those who don't know anyone, where do you live and how old are you? Everyone I know in KC who has had/died is 'pseudo urban' (urban but with space between houses) and 40's/50's with kids who are still in school.

I see this study making the news rounds this morning.  A study looking at the actual worldwide death rate from COVID, not the reported.

I find it difficult to believe that the US undercounted Covid deaths by 330,000.
