No, no, a thousand times no.  You don't let a group of three players determine whether a coach stays. What kind of message does that send to the kids you're asking, and to the other players on the team whose input didn't matter?  LeBron James can get coaches hired and fired.  But that will never happen at Marquette.

well, it worked for North Carolina when the class of May, Felton, McCants, et al said they were transferring if Doherty was brought back.

Never will happen, but Rick Pitino is named head coach at MU and they are immediately relevant again and interest in the program skyrockets.

Would love for MU to take gigantic Bryson Dechambeau swing like that.

Wojo to UNLV.

Basically our only hope of getting a new coach this offseason.

I actually think it's worth mentioning a quote from Christian Dawkins: "Rick has no clue what’s going on at his school. Most of the bigger guys, they know...[/i]"

Then that's called "wilful ignorance" on the part of Pitino.

One very good thing about Pitino is that he is a big fan of our history and understands that MU is a basketball school. If they let Wojo go, Rick should be the the #1 focus. He has another run in him and can flat out coach. He would provide an awfully exciting 4-5 years and this guy would not miss a game.

The problem is - will they bring Pitino in for an interview? IF they do, he would blow them away and get the job.

No, sorry Panda.

Just hoping it works out, otherwise Wades, Bias and others are going to have a field day with me for making a trash claim.  Time will tell.  I still feel confident though and would bet on it.

Just hoping???

"He's gone"
"Said it for weeks, alot of people talked sh*t, can't wait till they eat crow"
"He's gone, said it for a long time"
"$1,000 bet open without brains"

Just some of your statements.  So, you what is it, yes or no.  If yes, when?

The guy has never had any clue on the subject of Wojo's firing.  He said something along the lines of, "I don't know what y'all are hearing thinking Wojo is safe, but what I'm hearing is he'll be gone," suggesting he had some great insider knowledge nobody else had.  Then when asked follow-up questions, he immediately said something along the lines of, "You think I'd make any guarantees with Lovell and Scholl running the show?  How can anyone know what they'll do?!"  Literally admitting he has no clue and no inside information.

A poster who only ever trolls started a thread saying Wojo is gone.  And we're celebrating Wojo's departure.  Even though there's nothing to suggest Wojo is, indeed, gone.

This place is going to go ballistic when Wojo is not fired, even though there was nothing besides a troll starting a thread to suggest he was gone.

The guy won the internet today.
Personally I thought this was more noteworthy than the original post
I am actually quite surprised by this but there is serious discussion taking place. Some money is lining up. Very interesting.

No.  You don't let the whim of 18-22 year olds dictate the strategic direction of your program.  If you've made the determination that your current coach is not the person you want to be the CEO of your basketball program, you fire him, hire someone else and let the chips fall.

The person that you are hiring will have the implicit trust to try and retain any players on the roster, or release them all and start over at their discretion.

Nah, the whim of college kids is part the nature of the business.

Honestly if we are just now making the determination that the current coach isnt the right fit, I think that reflects poorly on the ones make that decision.

The way things ended the last two seasons with Markus tenure, were both unexpected and escalated dumpster fires.

If anyone went into this season of not only Covid but a roster of complete unknowns and didnt expect that there could be a potential big drop. They are insane.

Could we have been better this year? Sure. But we were always very flawed and our only true experience was guys who are role players at best.

If people within the program truly though DG, Lewis and Carton were all gonna come in and take the league by storm in 1 year then thats a big issue. This is a multi year core.

you should bump up your posts per page.  I'm only at 4 pages on this dumpster fire.

I am in favor of Pitino.  He's a devout Catholic.  Good coach.  Has served his time in purgatory.  Would make a lot of heads explode, including Badger fans.  Would immediately bring results.

If this was true and big donors were going to fund the buyout, would they have any say in who gets hired?

Would people spend millions to replace a dud with another dud?

Just in: Pitino signed by New Mexico.

Not that Marquette ever would've given him a shot anyway.

Edit: wrong Pitino. carry on
