Word is swirling : wojo is gone
« on: March 15, 2021, 10:01:43 PM »
Strong inside sources say wojo is gone with the killings departure (only piece keeping the program with a pulse).

Its coming folks.  Finally.
Perhaps a wealthy alum offered to soften the blow of the buyout.

This vague rumor mill will get me excited for inevitable disappointment just as effectively as the Wilson to Bears rumors.  An 8th year for Wojo and Andy Dalton leading the 2021 Bears to 6-10.  Huzzah!

Trying to see the connection here, because having an assistant get a head coaching job usually reflects well on the coach that hired him.

I hope you're right, but I'll be surprised if they can him.

He was a fantastic recruiter as far as getting the guys they targeted.   Head coaching was the bottle neck

That’s odd. I could see people saying he was jumping ship since it was thought Wojo was on the way out. If an AC is holding it all together, that’s not a great sign.

I don't think the decision has been made yet but if I was a betting man I would say he's here next season.

That’s fair. If they were to do it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they waited for the women’s team to have their day to shine before firing Wojo.

Also, Torrence is from the Syracuse area, I wouldn’t read too much into his tweets from a Wojo perspective. I wouldn’t be shocked if he followed Killings.

Perhaps killings tried to pull the et tu brutae move and the AD just didnt feel like he was the one so he bounced.

Im quite sure the current roster would have been more than ok with killings taking over

If Sy leaves, I wish him luck.  Good kid, seemed like a hard worker, just didn’t work out for him at MU.

How long can they afford to kick the tires before they make a decision? 4 high major jobs opened today and the good candidates are going to get scooped up before long.

As much as Wojo should be fired, I have no faith in the leadership at MU to pull the trigger.   The fanbase overall is perfectly content with Wojo and Covid can be used as the latest excuse.  MU leadership is feeling no heat to ditch Wojo right now sadly.

The first two high major hires were underwhelming. Indiana and DePaul will be swimming in different ponds than Marquette. Iowa State I think has someone in mind already. I think Minnesota is the only one that could beat us to a candidate we want.

But if they do make a move, I would hope it is soon. I don't think Killings has anything to do with it. I think the general consensus has been that he would get a HC job after this season for awhile now.

here's a hint.  They're not kicking any tires. So...a long time I guess.

He should go play for Killings at Albany. He’ll have more fun and get some good PT and will have a chance at the tourney a few times. Think about it...we are all sitting here with nothing to look forward to for 9 months and Traci Carter is preparing for an NCAA tournament game.

Didn’t we get caught with our pants down when Buzz left? Which kind of put us in a position to end up with Wojo? Would be nice if the admin demonstrated some competency this time around. But, the inmates run the asylum at MU lately and you can expect Wojo to leave on Wojo’s terms, regardless of how f’d that makes us in our search.

If MU is considering moving on from Wojo, they're likely already working on lining up his replacement. They don't need to publicly announce anything to do that.

My guess is that if there's going to be a change - and that's a big IF, IMO - it would only happen if/when they're confident they've got their guy. They're not going to fire their coach and bumble through a weeks long  search and get publicly rejectedby a couple of targets, a la St. John's a couple of years ago.
