Listening to Roy Buchanan right now. Often called the greatest white blues guitarist. He was offered a job by the Stones to replace Brian Jones and turned them down.

StillAWarrior

I've spend the afternoon listening to Robert Johnson and SRV. Thanks for the recommendations, everyone.

Totally different kind of music, but I enjoy listening to Estas Tonne. I can't really say I'm qualified to say he's "good"...but I like listening to him play.

Duane Allman needs to be mentioned.  He'd be my guy, though I'm not the music buff many of you are.

Some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned:

Dick Dale
Brian Setzer
Neil Geraldo
Duane Eddy
Link Wray
Keith Richards
Dave Davies

They ain't mentioned for a reason, kin.

Other than Dick Dale, his surf sound is killer.

someone not mentioned yet: Vernon Reid from Living Colour. IMO, this is the best guitar solo of all time on Cult of Personality.

I saw them in a mall when I was in middle school. They were playing at a club nearby and all went to the mall together earlier in the day. It wasn't hard to miss Corey Glover and his hair.

It is certainly in the discussion.   New thread?

Favorite Solos eh?

Well, my Zeppelin fanatic is really going to show here.  By the way, earlier I said Page is my favorite and Hendrix is probably the best.  Man, I'm changing to Page.

Here's a top 10 solos off the top of my head:
Dazed and Confused (Page)
Since I've Been Loving You (Page)
Sultans of Swing (Knopfler)
Eruption (EVH)
Fade to Black (Hammett)
Comfortably Numb (Gilmour)
Cemetery Gates (I said earlier I'm a bit of a metal head-- Man that freaking squeal) (Dimebag Daryl)
Scuttle Buttin' (SRV)
Little Wing (the intro) (Hendrix)
White Summer/ Black Mountain Side (Page)
Crazy Train (Rhodes) -- a bonus 11th

In no particular order really.  Didn't think it through very much.  No particular rhyme or reason.  Just off the top of my head.

I mentioned Wray, Davies, and Richards in the UK music thread.

The first 4 on your list are more about style than pure technical ability. Don't care about Dick Dale, but I can understand why the other 3 are on your list of faves.

Pakuni

I think it's OK for favorite not to be synonymous with "most technically gifted."
Bob Mould is one of my favorites. While he may not have the licks of several others in this thread, he's created a unique and not oft-imitated sound. Same with Morello.

The Rolling Stone list linked above is trash. I mean, Keith Richards top 5? Tony Iommi top 25? Ugh.

Wanter a woman, never bargained for you....

One of my favorite songs.

Nice thread.  I don't know how many posters actually play the guitar, but I have for a long time and I like to play loud.  Very loud and they used to name me 10/10.  Thats the volume control knob on the guitar and the amps.  Think Hair Nation....Before the pandemic happened I actually started to volunteer teaching at a local School of Rock, but that's another wild story in itself.

Glad the title is "Favorite" and not the best.  There are so many guitarists and the list is never ending.  Heck, there are some players on Youtube who are just ridiculous, to include youngsters are crazy good. Whats great for one is great for another, that's why if one person likes so and so, then great, he should not be mocked for his liking.

It is an audible thing in which your senses make you happy on what you are hearing.  The tone and the gain.
A popular song that has a great bridge lead, like Hotel California, the sounds of both Walsh's and Felder's guitars interact perfectly, even though the leads are not very hard to play.  Same with Stairway to Heaven, Page's work is beautiful, every single note.

Then there are the opening songs guitar riffs, oh my, so many...

My top favorites are:

Stevie Ray Vaughan (just ridiculous)
Peter Frampton
Wayne DeMartini (Ratt)
Gary Richrath (REO) (RIP)
George Lynch (Dokken)
Michael Schenker

What could be more fun than going all "10/10" on a song like Killing in the Name of?

Morello is strong, but that song doesn't do it for me.  Kind of a rap heavy metal song.

I've been listing to Indie 1.0 on the XM app recently and I totally missed on Mould back in the day....he was an f'n monster. He's on my 'explore more' list.
