Wags

Bias knows all of that to be true. He is simply being confrontational and feels he is challenging the "meat men". I will add, that if he does not already know that he probably should not be on a college basketball forum.

What I do know is that moral victories go a long way in the NCAA Tournament.  Like Texas fans surely feel better about their 0 NCAA Tournament wins in Shaka's tenure because they were close losses, I know I would feel a heck of a lot better about Marquette's late season slide last year had Marquette lost by 4 to UNC instead of 32.

Do you honestly feel that the only metric that you can use to judge the value of a coach is NCAA tournament wins?  There is no additional room for other factors?

Bias

I do not care if Shaka lost every NCAA game prior to coming to MU. He will be judged by winning at MU in March by me. Based on 90% of the posters on here, they had little chance to play in March last season, and I will consider last year a bonus game in March. If Shaka does not win games in the NCAA I will be the first guy to bitch about that performance.

To be honest, my excitement over Shaka is mainly based off of my love MU basketball. IMO, if Shaka proves he cannot get the job done, I am not sure the job can ever get done. He has every tool to win, a good coaching resume and likeable guy. If that is not enough to get the job done, I'm throwing in the towel.

I've already seen a material difference since Coach Shaka took over. His game management is exponentially better. We actually play defense. We're a team and we don't play as much hero ball as we did under Coach Wojo.

Our guys deal with situations. There's an inherent calm in them. Yes, things get away from them, like Purdue, but the team handles itself very well and plays under control. Coach Shaka commands the respect of his team. You'll undoubtedly see players leave but I doubt you'll ever have such a breakdown as we had in Hausergate.

I hope Coach Wojo finds something and is really successful. But Coach Shaka is the man and I'm incredibly optimistic.

So far it’s turning out that The Celtics are getting a heckuva bargain on the Sam signing for three years.
Wait 'til they draft Joey to make Sam happy and everything goes to sh!t

Usually, threads on The Al get bogged down by the same old arguments about the Hausers.

So it's nice to see the Hauser thread on the Superbar turn into a debate about Shaka-vs-Wojo.

Which, of course, is about as silly a debate as one can get because Shaka actually has accomplished something as a head basketball coach.

Their team is the best in the league right now by a significant margin.

Sparty‘s Malik Hall out at least 3 weeks — big opportunity for Joey.

Welp, massive fail for Joey in his first opportunity to shine while being asked to do more due to Malik Hall's absence.

Last night vs Alabama: 9 pts on 1-for-6 shooting, 5 turnovers. Only 5x as many turnovers as baskets - not bad.

And this from the AP game story: Joey Hauser had several hard falls to the court and was just 1 of 6 shooting.

Can't make this stuff up!

I didn't watch the game, but looking at the box score, Joey had a very nice game as Sparty beat Oregon: 18 points on 7/11 shooting (4/8 from 3), 10 reb, 3 assists and only 1 TO in 38 mins.

It has to be a little infuriating for Izzo and MSU fans to not know which Joey they'll get from one night to another, because "Good Joey" definitely can help them win games.

https://www.si.com/nba/2022/11/29/sam-hauser-boston-celtics-nba-biggest-surprise

he had an O-fer last night.  SI Jinx.

Good article, thanks for posting.

Today's NBA puts a premium on one thing above all else ... and if a player excels at that one thing, he can make a lot of money and be in the league for a long time.

The stats showing Sam's "importance" are of course skewed by his relatively low time on the court, but he's definitely helping the Celtics with his shooting and his high basketball IQ. And I'm not especially surprised.

In the MSU game against Brown today, Joey tops the 1000 point mark for his career.
