BIG EAST basketball will wear BLM patches for 2020-2021
« on: August 22, 2020, 01:08:28 PM »
Lets try this again.  This is fantastic:

https://www.fox61.com/article/sports/ncaa/big-east-men-and-womens-basketball-teams-to-wear-blm-patches-for-2020-2021-season/520-58b82fc6-908d-44c5-a151-5628ddd795b9

Quote
The effort to get the patches on the jerseys was spearheaded by Coaches for Action (CFA), which is a coalition of 21 BIG EAST ethnic minority men's assistant coaches. It was formed to "raise awareness in the fight against racism and to develop a sustainable action plan to dismantle prejudice, discrimination, and oppression in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and minoritized communities. The organization says coaches will wear BLM pins."

Proud of the Big East, and of my alma mater. Especially proud of the dedicated, hard-working Marquette athletes who realize that life is bigger than basketball, and even bigger than themselves.

Makes me proud to be associated with Marquette and the Big East.

All Lives Matter.

Is that the racist All Lives Matter movement that doesn't at all recognize the "prejudice, discrimination, and oppression in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and minoritized communities" face?

If you don't capitalize it, I can agree, all lives matter.  But you really just brought that up to make this political again, didn't you?

I though maybe people would be happy to voice their support for the team since I had to lock the other thread.

Yes, this will probably have to be locked too soon enough.

The BE continues to be a leader in the basketball world. They are on the right side of history. Proud of Marquette’s role in helping to spearhead this group of assistant coaches.

Black Lives Matter. And guess what, saying that doesn’t even mean other lives don’t matter, or even that other lives don’t matter as much! What it means is black lives haven’t been treated as though they’ve mattered throughout the history of this country. It’s time for that to change! As those who feel the need to say “All Lived Matter” every time someone says “Black Lives Matter” get old and leave this earth, equality will have a chance to be attained in this country. Until then, people in a place of privilege will try to hold onto that with everything they can.
Rocket Trigger Warning (wild that saying this would trigger anyone, but it's the world we live in): Black Lives Matter

This is widely known to be a tactic used by racists to minimize the "Black" in Black Lives Matter.

All Lives Matter.

Unfortunately, this historically and up to the present has not been the case in this country.
Which is the point of #blacklivesmatter.

We wouldn’t have to have this argument if racism was dead in this country and we lived in a society where equality was true for all.  It isn’t.  I’m proud of the men representing Marquette and fighting for equality for all people.

This is an issue in this world. Not just our country. Talk to a Maxican about people from Central and South America. You will be shocked.

Well, if that’s the case, I think we should ignore it here.  I’ll send an email to Theo John

Here’s a question.  Would everyone be OK if MU basketball put Make America Great Again on their uniforms?  As long as everyone was clear that it’s not Trump’s MAGA slogan, but just literally an attempt to make America better?  Who would disagree with making America great?  OR would some say that the words are too linked to Trump and are inseparable from his platform?

Great, another thread today for the woke to feel great about themselves as they solve this problem themselves in their own echo chamber.  The first one apparently wasn't enough as there was some dissent on the topic.

Rocky, I took care not to insult the group so you hopefully won't ban me like you have others today, unless woke is now an insult.

Please enjoy this clip as you pat each other on the back for all the good you think you are doing for the world.  Your efforts are laughable by the people you claim to be supporting because they can see right through it.

You know what, people sometimes just want to be treated like people.  Nothing more, nothing less.

At least learn how to call them by their correct name if you're going to call them out as racist. That would be Mexican. Yes of course racism and racist people exist all over the world. Does that mean we should tolerate it? I'm proud of MU and what the BE is doing. Unfortunately there seem to be too many people here that are uncomfortable when reality is called out. They rather live in their own comfortable little privileged safe space. I guess they didn't learn crap about the true Jesuit mission.

Odd that hundreds of thousands of brown people try to immigrate into America legally (or illegally) given all of this stated "prejudice, discrimination, and oppression."  Why do you think so many try to immigrate here?

This is 2020, not 1965.  Affirmative action was implemented some time ago.  There are grants and loans available for minorities only to start businesses.  America has elected a Black President.

Pounding the narrative of America being oppressive to people of color in this day and age is suspect at best, given the millions of thriving "brown" immigrants in America today.

Why most come because there is basically a fake narrative that the US is perfect and that they will be treated fairly. Many risk their lives to send meager illegal wages to their families. Some flee for their lives due to violence. But there is this thought that no matter what, you can succeed in the US. Lots of fantastic narratives make their way down towards the South. The oppression of minorities in the US is very real.
