Djokovic has picked up his game a lot.  Alcaraz must get back to thwacking his cannon 1st serve at a higher percentage.

Wow.  That was crazy.  Some guy screamed in the middle of Alcaraz' swinging volley.

Wow.  Alcaraz is such a class act.  Men's tennis is in very good hands.  Tremendous young man.

The best player in the world fricasseed the GOAT.

Alcaraz is the most accomplished 21-year-old in the history of men's tennis.

Incredible consistency.

The truth is he had quite a few unforced errors, and his serve % dipped dramatically in the 3rd set. That said, he had stretches of medievability.  In particular game 9 of the 3rd set.

Sure. He also beat two top five players to win his fourth major at age 21.

Yes.  But he did not go full medieval and clearly Djoker was not on his game in the first  two sets.  Alcaraz admitted that fact.  On the other hand, we did see what going full medieval entails.  It's a combination of total dominance, wizardry, and destroying your opponent's will to compete.  Djoker experienced FM after G9 of the 3rd set which is extraordinary.

Against Djokovic, you aren’t going to out consistent him so players tend to have higher unforced errors and lower first serve % because to play conservatively vs him is to lose.

Yes.  But the scary thing is Alcaraz is capable of more consistency and playing better.  He had his B game today but was still dominant.  His serve speed has increased which is a big problem for his opponents.  Grass may wind up being his best surface.

For the 21st time, Muggs, he's 21 years old.

By just about any measure one could come up with, he is the most accomplished 21-year-old in men's tennis history. He's plenty damn consistent - as consistently good as anyone out there.

But no, he doesn't play perfect tennis every single point of every single match. Neither did anybody else. And, scary for everybody else, he still can get a lot better - just as each of the Big 3 got much better in their mid- to late-20s. So if that, by your definition, is "inconsistent," have at it.

From Yahoo Sports:

The 21-year-old Alcaraz is now 60-10 at Grand Slams, which is a better record than Rafael Nadal (58-12), Novak Djokovic (55-15) and Roger Federer (52-18) had through their first 70 major matches. In fact, the only player to reach 60 Grand Slam wins faster than Alcaraz was John McEnroe, who needed one fewer match.

May not be the best match of the Open, but Shelton vs. Tiafoe should be the most fun.

That better be a night match.
