An absolute disgrace to the troops.  Say what you will about Uday and Qusay Hussein, they knew how to handle athletes that embarrassed their country.

Quote from: MU82 on May 31, 2026, 09:28:09 PMThe French Open's insistence upon using humans to make line calls cost Ruud the second set. A bad call let Joao stave off a set point, and he went on to win it.

Of course, Ruud had plenty of other opportunities, but still ... come on ... it's 20-effen-26.

Apparently they're not going to the non-humans anytime soon.  Makes no sense.

Women's QF include 4 Russians and 2 Ukrainians ... and 0 Americans.

Men's QF include 3 Italians (none named Sinner) and 1 Canadian ... and 0 Americans.

Dammit.  Jodar lost focus.

MuggsyB

Scoopers need to jinx Zverev.  Very  important for Jodar to find a way to snag this set.

MuggsyB

Not good.  Unfortunately, Zverev is a heavy favorite to win this tournament.  FAA or Fosceca may have a chance if they go medieval.

The French are woke so I haven't watched

Wow, was Mensik impressive. I still think Fonseca will go on to be a better all-around player ... but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

If Mensik plays like that in the semis, he definitely could beat Zverev.

Not if Zverev visualizes his name as WoMensik

I haven't seen Mensik play.  He's 20.  Massive power from both wings?  He's not diminutive.

Sabalenka's emotional outbursts are bizarre to me.  She's absolutely shredding her opponent (5-1) but looks like she is down 6-0, 5-0.  I don't really get it.  She's also literally mad at the wind.  I get the Serena comparisons with the grunting and intimidation factor, but I don't remember Serena having outbursts within 5 games of the 1st set or while she was pummeling her opponents.  Sabalenka is the clear #1 in the world and dominant, why is she always furious on the court?  I don't think it helps her at all either.  Serena on the other hand could use her anger positively.

MU82

It was fitting for the way this tournament has gone that she lost.

Yes. We're at the point where her antics are just insufferable.  I honestly don't get it.  It's been a detriment to her winning a lot more imo.

I just meant all the favorites have lost, but sure.

Qualifier Maja Chwalińska of Poland has reached the French Open final. Her game is fun to watch - not much power but great touch and a lot of imagination. She's trying to be the second qualifier to win a major. (Emma Raducanu won the 2021 U.S. Open.)

On Saturday, Chwalińska will play Russian teen Mirra Andreeva, who easily dispatched Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk. (Kostyuk did not shake hands with Andreeva after the match; she says she won't acknowledge Russian players as long as their country is at war with hers.)

Andreeva is the #8 seed and already pretty accomplished, so it seems like a mismatch. Which probably means Chwalińska pulls off the upset, given everything else that's gone on in this tournament.

Unlike Poland, Russia was our ally in WWII.  I'll be pulling for the Russian.

WTF a walkover in the SF?  That's highly unusual.

Cobolli will have the crowd on Sunday.
