Get the kid a racket.  It's important to learn how to bludgeon forehands and eviscerate serves. It's been more than 2 decades since we had a male gs winner.  Get him on the court and set up all sorts of targets.  Reward the young man for power shots.

It helps but you're right, they need more conplete games.  They can't win Wimby, the USOpen or the AO either.

My game is/was most like Nadal's, but I'm a righty.  Oh....and he was a smidgen better than me.  :(

Clay/Hard Tru is by far my favorite surface. If you have wheels and consistent groundies, you can destroy bigger players that have more pop.  Plus I could throw in the backhand slice dropper.  It was a lot of fun to annoy the fk out of people, watch them spray unforced errors like crazy, and psychologically demoralize them.  We should have way more clay courts in the USA.

Ruud made the FO Finals...was it like 5 years ago?

Of course Rafa disposed of Casper in like 90 mins.  If memory serves, that was a complete thrashing.  :)

He actually made three major finals in 2 years. 2022 French and US Open. 2023 French. lost to Nadal, Alcaraz, and Djoker.

It's tough when you're crazy good but nowhere near the ultimate elite players.

The French Open's insistence upon using humans to make line calls cost Ruud the second set. A bad call let Joao stave off a set point, and he went on to win it.

Of course, Ruud had plenty of other opportunities, but still ... come on ... it's 20-effen-26.

Svajda is really fighting.  Tremendous effort and guts from the young American after getting steamrolled the first two sets and down 5-1 in the 4th.
