I guess we now know why Sinner is #1.

Quote from: MUBurrow on January 29, 2025, 09:09:10 AMHas anybody ever gone to Indian Wells and have any insider tips? I'm going to a few sessions - at least one day and one night in the middle rounds - and just wondering if there is anything I should know going in other than what is publicly available on the event website.

Quick follow up on this - if you ever get the chance to go to Indian Wells, do it.  Palm Springs doesn't do a ton for me, but Tennis Paradise ^TM lives up to the hype.  The accessibility is off the charts great, its a very well run facility, and if you go in the early-middle rounds, there are matches with recognizable players everywhere.  All Stadium 1 tickets include a grounds pass that allow you to watch every match on the grounds that day, including the GA sections of the other two main stadiums.  Concessions are top notch (though California-priced), and watching practice sessions is great.

It is on my todo list, bunch of guys here in the PNW go every year and they all love it.

Apparently Fritz decided to lay an Emu egg in the 1st round at Roland Garros.

I just signed an executive order re-naming it the American Open.

On clay Tommy Paul has the best chance.  Shelton on grass or a hardcourt.  What would be ideal is a player with more versatility and an all-court games.  Paul is very consistent and quick, but doesn't have the pop on his groundies like Sinner or Alcaraz.  Shelton can obliterate a serve and tattoo his forehead, but his backhand is pretty much a disaster compared to the other top players.  In conclusion, we could be screwed until some badass comes around.  Which may be never.

Considering tiafoe has made 2 of the last three semis at the US Open and Fritz made the dunks made year, I'd argue they both have better chances than Shelton. Shelton has the highest ceiling though.

I agree with your last sentence.  And I don't trust Fritz or Tiafoe despite them having one good USOpen.

No longer seeing Rafa shred dudes on the clay saddens me.  Always remember, his complete dominance at Roland Garros is among the greatest accomplishments in the history of human sports.

Tiafoe has gone semifinal, quarterfinal, semifinal the past three years. His performance at other majors is spotty but he's trustworthy at the US

That's fair.  I still don't think he has enough to get over the hump.

Alcaraz better wake up.  He just split sets to some no name.

Although he is Hungarian.  I could go for some goulash.

Potatoes? Fat noodles?  Rice?  Polenta?   What's the Hungarian dumpling similar to spaetzle?

I may have to make my version this weekend.  There's that soft Challah bread as well to sop.

Nice to see that Tiafoe dismissed some Spainard.  Paul winning in 5 surprises me.

Hungarian paprika is truly a gift.  Tremendous, tremendous, spice.  And versatile with the sweet, smoked, and hot options.

Only traitors use spices from other countries than America.  You're costing American jobs by using spices from other parts of the world

True traditionals don't use spices, besides salt & pepper.

The Hungarians were brought Paprika from the Turks.  The peasants of Hungary in the 16th century changed the world with their ingenuity and palate.
