Im not saying it'll be this tournament or this year or even in the next few years, but to me it feels like Shelton or Michelsen will be the guy to end the US major drought.

They just seem to have another level compared to recent US men's players.

I think it's Michelson. He's not there yet and the stupidly late I stayed up last night confirmed it, but he's got the intangibles. I think Shelton just ceilings too low in terms of his smart play. His serve vs return iq is legit night and day. I don't understand why he is a complete moron on the break

Agreed. But it has improved. And he might be strong enough on the serve if he can improve his return game even a little bit. Especially in a year where maybe Alcaraz or Sinner get upset early.

But Michelsen seems to be the total package.

I think thien is going to plateau unfortunately due to his physical limitations.

Michelson has the build and athleticism to take it up several notches. This is my competitive tennis player but not even close to an expert observation. Just what I would predict. But I peaked at 4.5 so what do I know.

I've said before and it's coming true. American players are mentally soft. Paul is gifting this match

Zverev is a much better player.

Its just nice to have legit American players again instead of the top American contenders being guys like Isner, Opelka, and, to a lesser extent, Querrey who were just tall boomers who had massive serves but couldn't rally or break anyone in the top 50.

Yes and Paul had set points he botched

Tremendous wim for Madison Keys.

Zverev has to be one of the worst "contenders" in this generation of tennis players.

Good enough to advance reasonably far in big tournaments, nowhere near good enough to win.

And so, The Big Three era has given way to The Big Two era. Sinner and Alcaraz won't win every major ... but they'll win most of them. That's what I'll believe, anyway, until some other player gives me reason to believe otherwise.

Eh. I think you're being too harsh on Zverev. He's not Sinner or Alcaraz but he's a legitimate top 5 player in the world at the moment. He's been to three major finals.

World class prick, but he's a great tennis player. He's just not a machine like Sinner.

I agree that Sinner and Alcaraz are far and away the top 2. Djokovic is probably still 3rd.

I guess I just don't see the point in watching the sport if you're diminishing a guy who has a real chance to win 2-3 majors in his career. But to each their own. I don't think anyone has any illusions that he's Alcaraz or Sinner, but he's near the top of that next tier which makes him a damn good tennis player.

Shelton has potential with his thunderous/no regard for human life serve on a faster court.  But Sinner and Alcaraz could both win 10+ g-slams.

I enjoy tennis. Maybe you're right, and one of these times I'll be stunned that I'm watching Zverev be more than a bridesmaid.

Using your argument, I guess you didn't enjoy watching men's tennis for the 15+ years that only three men totally dominated the sport.

No, I did. I enjoyed the domination and obviously they were the best in the sport. But I also understood those guys reached a level that very few people have been able to reach and enjoyed the few times the guys in the tier below them were able to match that level.

It's like not enjoying any NBA players except LeBron & Jordan.

Anything that makes Zverev sad is good in my book.

Sinner has some of the best groundstrokes I've ever seen. I don't know how someone as long as he is can slide like that on hard court

Interesting stuff from Yahoo Sports:

The lost generation: Sinner's latest victim, world No. 2 Alexander Zverev, is among a group of players born in the 1990s who couldn't get past the Big Three at the tail end of their reign and are now getting shut out by the Big Two at the beginning of theirs. The numbers tell the story:

Players born in the 1980s have won 80 Grand Slams and players born in the 2000s have already won seven, with Alcaraz and Sinner a perfect 7-0 in finals.
Meanwhile, players born in the 90s have won just two Grand Slams (Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem). They've reached 22 major finals but lost almost all of them to Djokovic (8), Nadal (5), Sinner (3) and Alcaraz (2).

Bit of a mix of bad timing catching the whole big 3 era and now two young stars. But also just a weird lack of star players from the 90s. Watching Sinner and Alcaraz you can tell they are better than the 90s guys at their peaks.

Has anybody ever gone to Indian Wells and have any insider tips? I'm going to a few sessions - at least one day and one night in the middle rounds - and just wondering if there is anything I should know going in other than what is publicly available on the event website.

For example - buying a seat in Stadium 1 also grants access to the GA sections of Stadium 2.  Are there enough GA areas in Stadium 2 to make that actually something I might take advantage of?
