Just finished Lost in Space (Netflix) .. wow, that was awesome.

It's the most captivating series I've watched in years.

Almost through the 2nd season of Money Heist.  It's improbable but I love capers like these.

Finished Money Heist.  Amazing series.  Top 3 covid binge series.

Watched season 1 of Swagger on Apple+.

A lot of the basketball scenes were ridiculous, but I generally enjoyed the story and the acting. I thought a lot of the young actors were very talented.

And as a bonus ...

Felicia Pearson, who famously played the infamous Snoop on The Wire, was in a few scenes as a rival coach. I could even mostly understand her this time!

Actually went to a movie theatre today for the first time in two and a half years.  The wife and I went to "West Side Story," and it was enjoyable!

Awesome, I'll have to give this a run.

Maybe a little late to this party, but highly recommend Belfast.  One of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time.

So new season of Cobra Kai comes out tomorrow.

Anyone else besides me excited?

4 episodes in and I'm enjoying it a lot. Liking a couple characters new/old putting a more realistic view onto this season.

Killed it off in three nights (3/4/3). Another excellent season and a great set-up for season five. Some excellent character development for Johnny, Tory, Sam and Robby too. Even Creese is moving forward as a person. Hopefully, it isn't a year wait this time.

The new female member of Eagle Fang, Devon, is a good character. Also the daughter of Radiohead's guitarist. I loved Johnny's response when she joined “The only pronouns we accept in this dojo is sensei and student" and her response" "those are nouns." LOL.

Yellowstone is next.

I've enjoyed that the show has taken the "barney" approach, and has shown quite a bit that Daniel has been the aggressor and agitator of a lot of things happening both in the movie and now the show.

It seems up to episode 5 that Daniel is now starting to realize this. Also so far looks like silver is the level headed person Cobra Kai needs. But that'll probably blow up in my face.

Very glad that they seem to be steering away from the "everything starts to build up to make amends, then a small miscommunication or something of that sort happens" so far this season.

So, is Cobra Kai more drama or comedy? Is it self-deprecating? Like most, I'm very familiar with Karate Kid ... do they make a lot of references or is that pretty much ancient history? I've heard a lot of good stuff about Cobra Kai and am trying to talk myself into starting to watch it even though I'm obviously way behind.

Should the original Karate Kid movies be rewatched before watching Cobra Kai?

I wouldn't say it's a traditional comedy, but does have quite a lot of funny moments. I also wouldn't classify it as a drama, there's not many going to make you cry moments. It's got action, comedy, drama, adventure etc.

It's got the whole teenagers being teenagers and plays parts of the series like you would normally expect to see in something built for that age group. But it's also a lot more adult moments then karate kid.

For part 2 of your question, they definitely bring up plots, moments, themes, and characters from the karate kid movies, but they don't rely on them heavily and the show in itself is it's own story.

Definitely do not need to see or rewatch the movies before you see the series.

I haven't seen the original since the 80's and never saw the other two. Admittedly I wasn't a huge fan of the movies, but the show is really enjoyable and nostalgic with the soundtrack.

There are references to the past but they splice in clips from the movies so you aren't totally lost. I didn't know who Sliver but you figure it out pretty quickly.

I would say Do Not Rewatch. I did not, and it definitely took me back to the 80's when I first saw the movies. I feel if I would have rewatched the movies, that feeling would have been lost.
