Marquette soccer (Men and Women)

The men's team is struggling again. This will now be 2 NCAA appearances in 14 seasons for Louis Bennett unless winning conference tournament this season. 10 of 13 have been losing record seasons.

The Women's team will miss the NCAA's for the 5th time in 6 seasons unless winning the conference tournament this season  (Made it 12 of 18 prior to that in a total of 24 Markus Roeders seasons) Been a rough go for several recent seasons.

I understand the challenges and different importance levels of non-revenue sports. But I would think expectations would be a bit higher than this.

We only have three NCAA men's appearances in school history.  Two of them in the last 7 years.  Nothing to write home about, but we have not had much success at all in men's soccer overall.

the NBE is no joke.  #1 and #3 in the RPI, Seton Hall (which just tied #3) the lowest ranked at #68. MU is #51 and traditional power Creighton is #61.  Outside of the ACC the Big East is right up there as one of the strongest conferences in the country.

I don't think it is at weaker the top.  But losing ND, Louisville, UCONN, Cuse really hurt the overall depth. More so, MU dropped considerably where it was up there.

Roeders stepping down is not a surprise to me. The women's program had missed the NCAA's 5 of 6 seasons and trending the wrong direction. The program had a noticeable lack of diversity in an era where it is common place. Roeders had a very good run of 12 of 18 NCAA teams prior to that after taking several years of building to get it going. But this is a good time for a change.

That's not usually how it works.  Their respective contracts could be different.  There could be other issues other than on-field performance involved.  He could have had a discussion with the AD and simply agreed to part ways.

Yep. Very good results for the league. Georgetown very well could win the whole thing. .....Brian Wiese has built an elite program there. He's a Bobby Clark guy.....played at Dartmouth, assistant under Clark at both Stanford and ND. Super bright guy.  He has about 5 Big East Titles and 4 conf tourney titles there, 8 of 10 NCAA's after building an elite program.

Masur has been around forever at St. John's 33 years. Rutgers guy  Changed assistants in recent years, helped give them a resurgence. After much success for decades with varying degrees  They are good this year.

Stewart came from the D-2 route playing and coaching at his alma mater Franklin Pierce. Has had a nice run in his 8 plus years at Providence, with 4 of 8 NCAA's and some nice NCAA runs. Assistant coach there in the past.

Different ways MU can go to build a program under a new head coach. Some good candidates.

(he is the Associate Head Coach under Paul Ratcliffe who has been great there) In his 6 easons at Stanford, the Cardinal have won 1 National Title, made the NCAA College Cup semifinals two other times, an elite 8, and 2nd round. While at Marquette from 2009-12, MU made the NCAA's all four seasons including two Sweet 16 appearances and a Big East Regular season title. He moved back to the west coast (He played at U of San Francisco)  at Oregon for a year before Stanford.
