Wade Festivities
« on: January 16, 2019, 03:59:51 PM »
MU is doing a nice job advertising DWade's celebration, and the $3 food/drinks is a great idea to get people in the doors early....BUT, I haven't seen anything indicating when the "ceremony" will actually take place. It's possible I missed it and I assume halftime, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Anyone have any info or insight on this?

I’d like to know what Marquette has in mind? Could Dwyane be statue-worthy?

Gaaaaah!

I stopped reading when I saw the sentence that used "it's" instead of the proper "its".  All the unemployed and underemployed comm majors out there....

Have some patience, FFS.

Yep. Stuff like that drives me crazy, and really gets under the skin of my daughter - a recent (and currently underemployed) Journalism grad whose hobby is sending corrections to the editors of WaPo and NYT.

When I was at Marquette, freshman English Comp was one of the toughest classes.  I also had a high school Comp teacher who would give you an automatic failing grade on a paper if he saw something like this.

Thanks! Somehow I missed it when MU issued "it's" Press Release.

Nowadays, they give out "good try!" stickers for that.... :(

I took Glow Jr. on a college tour of Butler.  There was a plaque on the wall of one of the buildings about an event that happened there that was the "first of it's kind".

I turned to Glow Jr. and said, "You can't go to school here".

I am able to handle it better when it is non-professional writers.

I do, however, get a little stabby when I see guys use "would of" and "should of" on here, which is way too often.

Glow can attest that I am about as non-OCD as folks come, but the grammar and spelling thing....

Pwrsonally when i type on a forum or something of this nature i could nit care less about going back and correcting fat fingered typos.  Now if it was a letter for my business or something of that nature, of course.   Just in looking at this,  the first word i fat fingered the “w” instead of the “e” right next to it.  If someone cant figure out i was typing “personally” then i guess i just dgaf.  Application essays one thing, message boards another.

Autocorrect is the evil stepchild of spell and grammar check. Counterproductive and almost Monarch level mind control stuff. It seems to occur with greater frequency in comments on political blogs. If only George Carlin were still alive to weigh in on it.

Not to mention that web pages can be corrected almost instantly.  So often there is a mindset to get something up and mistakes can be corrected later.  (I don't have that mindset BTW.)

Always 1 1/2 hours before game time ( i.e., 9:30 AM on Sunday).

Hey, I prefer afternoon games to mornings, but I'm glad we're not going on against the NFL playoffs.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I don't necessarily mind them, but it did seem to affect the energy in the stadium for the Xavier game, and the stadium was 2/3 empty right before game time. The Flash Sale is a good idea to try to get more butts in the seats earlier.

The second this year.  I'm not remembering any previous MU Sunday games in prior years but we should really feel blessed as we have a disproportionate share (6 out of 9) of conference Sat./Sun. home games.  Later this season we have Creighton in the Sunday slot but it's at 2p.
