To me, I think the OP was referring to how he was a guy his opponents will love to hate, like Travis was.  I actually didn't think McClung carried himself in that cocky manner like Travis and to a greater extent Rowsey did.  But if he plays like that for the next four years, he will be a thorn in our side for sure.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

McClung hype makes him one of my most hated players.  He's very inconsistent yet people who look at raw stats, a few highlights,  and see one game think he is great.

Great game last night but he's not even in the same league as Diener.  Last night was McClung's Jean Felix game.  Try not to overreact.

I actually don't mind the kid and he doesn't seem like that much of a hotdog. Especially considering he's kind of a freak and was an Instagram sensation with his dunking ability.

My mole at GU says he's anything but a hotdog.  Apparently, a quiet and shy kid.

I am sure he is, but even if the nicest kid on the planet starts relentlessly raining threes on your team, his face starts to look punchable.
Have some patience, FFS.

So Markus's face looks punchable to opposing fanbases.

The biggest problem with McClung is that every time he does something that doesn't suck, Murf is on the Dodds board saying I told you so.  He is a huge fan.

That site is still up?

Akinjo's shot wasn't very good tonite, but they will be a nice backcourt for the next few years.
Nor was his decision making.  Georgetown board absolutely roasting him (and giving lots of props to the MU w/o Howard).  Agreed that McClung and Akinjo will be a force.

Not familiar with McClung except for the shot he hit vs Providence and his nice game against us. I don't watch a ton of Gtown hoops and I don't know his backstory. Does he have a history of dirty play? Is he a smack-talker (like Theo)? Why is he "unlikable," except for being on a conference rival who will go against us for a few years?

He doesn't have a history of being dirty or anything like that that I know of. He's been a YouTube sensation for years because of his dunking ability, which is pretty amazing and worth a look if you haven't seen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PePUaQ6789k). He's a better all-around player than I expected, and a good get by Georgetown. I believe he is from VA.

My 13 year old son always calls him Matthew McClung which I think is hilarious.

I realize that, but just doesn't fit, does it?

This cracks me up...my girlfriend came into the room where I was watching the game and within one minute said "I wanna punch that little douchebag in the face."

He's not yet to the Tripucka/Macura/Devendorf/Kaminsky/Gasser/Davison level of hated opponents, but by the time he's a Senior, I'm pretty sure he will be.

It really kinda is a "scrappy white guy" thing, isn't it? Not sure why, but fans love to hate these guys.

tower mentioned that maybe Markus' face is punchable to other fan bases, but I doubt it. Maybe so if Markus were white.

It's a weird social phenomenon. There probably are racists who hate black people but would rather punch one of these scrappy white players in the face.

It's apparent that those scrappy white players don't know their place.

Why does your girlfriend want to punch white basketball players?

I'm not sure the Dominic comparison is a perfect one either. Dom was a point guard from the beginning. McClung is more like a Wes / Dom hybrid IMO.

It's just a weird phenomenon that's unique to basketball and its fans.

We probably could have a whole discussion about it in the Superbar ... although it would probably get locked in the first few hours!

Not all of them, just McClung.  And Davison.

McClung shot himself in the leg in 8 Mile.

Herman Cain

McClung is a solid young player and can't help what he looks like.  Has some very good athletic skills at driving the ball .The outside shooting is in need of improvement so there is upside in his game .  I would not put him in the untalented but scrappy white guy category. So far he hasn't exhibited any jerk like tendency. Ewing is not the kind of coach that is going to have a punk on his team. I think He and Akinjo make a nice back court combo for Georgetown. Looking forward to some great games with Georgetown over the coming years.
