All I know is that I see a lot more holes in the first deck of the non-student sections than I do in the first deck of the student section.

Not really a fair comparison though because of assigned versus unassigned seats. If 50% of the students show up, the lower bowl at the BC would look full while the upper deck would be empty. Even if 70-80% of the STHs show up, you'll see holes dispersed throughout the arena.

No offense but isn’t that a nonsense comparison since the student section is general admission.

Agreed.  It's also unfair and nonsense to criticize the student section for not showing up when they fill up the first deck in virtually every non break game.

Well, I was joking as to the way you worded your sentence it said you were worried about non-students showing up.

Where do you see these holes?  In person or on TV? The reason I ask is I have actually been very surprised how loyal the Sweater Vest base has supported the team in person through this downturn  I, like you, expected a bigger drop off.

That said, if the majority of your reference point is TV, then it can be deceiving.  One, many of those STHs linger, get held up on return from the Clubs.  Or for these non-cons choose to sit with friends as a group in open seats as their seats are more policed by the ushers.  This includes the student section. With all the extra club seating, open holes on TV will be worse (see Dodger or Cubs games where fans stay in the Clubs).

I'll give you an story with my Brewers season tickets where my guests and I had dinner and drinks at weekday game up in one of the Clubs.  It was a sit down meal on a hot night.  We got to our seats around the sixth inning and the fan next to me says "nice of you to show up".  Let's see, I just drove two hours during a tough business week, waited in a long parking line, had a nice dinner in the Club as I skipped lunch to try to get out on time, brought friends dinner and the tickets, but I am a crappy fan?

The game and fan experience is changing. As to giving away my STs, let's just say it has been hard to get takers. For a noncon last year I bought 10 break tickets to sit with a group of family and friends and gave away my mid-Court tickets.  I then found out I lost my perfect attendance because of the no-show even though I was there.  That also happened a few times on my extra single tickets.  It hasn't been easy so don't always assume bad intent.  Needless to say, those people are off the list.

My biggest beef with the students was this year after the near miss vs Nova.  We then played Butler at 8pm on Wednesday and the student section was about 20% the size.  The 2nd Quadrant was almost empty (behind the band).

How so many kids could watch us take Nova down to the wire and then decide to skip a conference game at 8pm on a Wednesday was beyond me.

Seeing our roster for the 14-15 season was a main contributor for choosing my sophomore year to study abroad rather than junior. Nailed that one on the head

Also why my daughter went abroad fall semester last year-she's a senior at Nova and didn't want to miss the heart of the season.  Nailed that one on the head.

We will make home and away games this year for first time since her freshman year (last two years games have been during xMas break)

Also, the team was mediocre during my years (82-86) but the student section at the MECCA was filled and boisterous for the most part.

When I attended, '65-'69, tickets were not issued. My freshman year, Al's second year as coach, freshman were offered a season ticket package for 8 dollars/seat/year for all home games. I paid 64 dollars for two reserved seats at the Arena for my 4 years at MU. My first 2 years at MU they averaged about 7-8 thousand per game. I believe the Arena held about 11000 then and I would say about 3000 were students which were located on the North side of the arena. My Junior and Senior years tickets were becoming a hot item.

New this year -

DJs and MCs at every game:

I think that’s gonna be awesome.

I also think sweater vests are going to hate that.

If it's the same as what is going on with volleyball games with the DJ, sweater vests will not notice it.

I got to MU (fall of 78) just as enthusiasm was starting to wane just a little bit among students. We won the title in 77 and then had the early exit in 78. Enthusiasm was still fairly high, but it was down just enough that MU no longer had to do half-season tickets for students; there was still a lottery, but most who wanted full-season tickets got them.

Even back then, there was criticism about the "vests" in the expensive seats.

The Arena held 10,938 back then IIRC.

I am torn between thinking this is corny as hell or cool. I guess it will depend on how it actually is executed.

Either way, DJ Snack Daddy is a hilarious name.

I got to campus in the fall of 1981, and I remember half-season tickets the entire time I was there.  They key was getting the half that the Notre Dame game was in.

I do worry about it being a little too NBA-like.

Part of the reason that I prefer college hoops to the NBA is the difference in the non-game stuff:  Pep bands, non-slutty cheerleading outfits, hokey promotions, etc.

TAMU did this at all of their basketball games last season. It didn't make the music better or worse IMHO. Some DJs were good at pumping up the crowd, others were not so good. It really depends on which DJ is working.

Anything that promotes less band is a good thing.

I love the band. And if this is done like TAMU did it, it won't mean less band.

FIFY

This is correct.

OK ... I fully allow that I'm just misremembering! That happens to us oldsters. I SAY ... THAT HAPPENS TO US OLDSTERS!

I did have tickets for the entire season as a freshman and again as a senior; maybe my friends and I just bought other students' plans for the other half of the season? Totally possible. (As a soph and junior, I wrote about the Warriors, so I didn't need tix.)
