Average attendance up slightly from the prior year, still in the Top 25.  What jump are we expecting in the FF?  15,000 per game?

Top-25 finish for 17th-straight year

8/15/2018 8:36:00 AM

By: Scott Kuykendall

Story Links For the 17th-straight year, the Marquette University men's basketball team finished among the top-25 teams in the nation in regular season average attendance thanks to the dedication and support of the program's tremendous fan base.

The Golden Eagles capped a successful 30-year run at the BMO Harris Bradley Center last season, but are extremely excited to open play at the new Fiserv Forum in 2018-19.  The state-of-the-art home of the Milwaukee Bucks will host 20 Marquette games beginning with an exhibition on Oct. 30.

Blue & Gold fans will have their first opportunity to see the new arena from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29.  Fans in attendance will be able to tour the arena, meet the players and coaches and checkout their season ticket locations.  The ticketing staff will also be in attendance to help facilitate any potential new season ticket holders.

Details on the open house will be confirmed in the coming days.

2017-18 Attendance Highlights
The Golden Eagles ranked 21st in the nation in average attendance (13,857) during the regular season
The Golden Eagles played in front of 396,358 total fans in its 35 outings, the 27th-best mark in the country
Marquette has ranked in the top-25 in final regular season average attendance in each of the last 17 seasons
Over 1.8 million fans watched BIG EAST Conference teams in 2017-18
A total of 235,574 fans visited in the BMO Harris Bradley Center
MU is only non-football school to rank in the top-25 in attendance every year since 2002
Crowds at the BMO Harris Bradley Center averaged nearly 15,000 during BIG EAST Conference matchups

They took the NIT games out of those numbers, but the NCAA didn't.

Yeah they qualified it in the press release.

I think this is verging on "lame" territory.

Would you guys have rather we played the NIT on the road?  Chick and I felt privileged to watch each of those 3 games in person.  It was freakin' electric in there.  I promise you, your comfy couch and cold brewski sucked by comparison with apologies to the many of you who simply live too far away or were unable to get tickets but tried.

The artificial ceiling takes nothing away from the fact that Marquette is a basketball draw at the level few non football schools can achieve.  And that's the bottom line.

That's odd that they count the post-season NIT hosted games.  Do they give SJU credit for all the BET games (or just theirs) since MSG is one of their home courts?

Goose

We will be adding two bodies to that number this year. After a long break, we are back as season ticket holders. Looking forward to the new barn and fingers crossed for a big season.

No I just think touting the "top 25 in attendance" every year is lame.

You can tone down the superfan schtick too.

..but what are we ranked when it's based on % of true capacity?

It's not lame at all. It is a solid accomplishment and shows the support for the program

It's beyond lame.  Especially since they are now qualifying it with the regular season.

We were actually 26 per the NCAA — below (gasp) Dayton.

Lame or not, it's good to give the numbers out to the masses.

If the BC or MECCA wasn't available and forced to play in the AL (or simply because of $$), why should that be held against the school for games that only have a few days to sell?

We drove up for one game and it was a terrific atmosphere.  Fantastic.

Silly, unnecessary, borderline pathetic put-down of a fine Scooper and excellent fan.

We only fill the easy seats.

Someone please double check for me, but I believe we are #1 among schools that are located in a city with an NBA team.

Or #2 if you consider Provo part of SLC.
Have some patience, FFS.

I would say UMD should qualify as a school located in an NBA city.  It's basically DC.

muwarrior69

I believe our attendance is phenomenal considering the crappy seasons (i.e. by MU standards) we have had the past 5 seasons. I hope we can challenge Creighton for attendance leader this season.

Since when did Duluth get an NBA team?

(for the record, UMD is the University of Minnesota-Duluth)
