TAMU, Knower of Ball

http://www.gomarquette.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

Official measurements are out. Some things of note:

Despite reports of him being taller, Bailey only listed at 6'8, also only 190 lbs.

John and Heldt both slimmed down from 245 to 240.

Elliott gained 5 lbs, going from 170 to 175

Eke down from 225 to 220

Chartouney down from 205 to 200

Joey listed as 6'9 230 lb. Already bigger than his brother. I also think we see some lineups with him as mobile shooting 5.

Cain up to 195 from 190

Morrow, Sam, Markus, and Sacar all stay the same.

Also numbers are out:
#0 - Markus Howard
#1 - Brendan Bailey
#2 - Sacar Anim
#4 - Theo John
#5 - Greg Elliott
#10 - Sam Hauser
#12 - Matt Heldt
#13 - Ike Eke
#21 - Joseph Chartouney
#22 - Joey Hauser
#23 - Jamal Cain
#25 - Koby McEwen
#30 - Ed Morrow
#40 - Tommy Gardiner
#41 - Mike Lelito
#42 - Buddy Jaffee
#52 - Cam Marotta

I'll be more interested in the fall measurements. Plenty of off season to pack on the pounds.

Someone get Bailey a sandwich, bowl of chili and two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun..

Might as well go all out!

5 pounds is disappointing for Cain and Elliot. Re-watch the NCAA tourney, they both need 15-20. From reading this board I thought our S&C program was second to none. Eke and John lost weight?

You realize that S&C isn't just about gaining weight right?

It may not seem like it, but 5 lbs of muscle is a lot of muscle.

A lot of big men slim down in college. Losing fat in order to increase mobility and endurance.

Another thing to consider:

Perhaps the weight stats on some of the guys were "rounded up" last year (like  Markus's height is  ;)) and they didn't feel it was necessary to do it this year.
Have some patience, FFS.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Is  there a date reference somewhere on this Roster release, I'm not seeing it.  It might be helpful, or is there a protection of medical information clause?

Agreed. Here's to hoping it's still a work in progress and that things are going as planned.

Think about it this way.  It's been about three months since the season ended, and they've put on 5.  You got about another three months until next season starts, keep up the pace, and adding 10 lbs of muscle in one off-season isn't bad.  Still a ways to go, but an incredible accomplishment none the less.

For guys that weigh 170 pounds it should be all about gaining weight. 6'6 guards should be 190 at least. I'm not trying to be a d*ck, but 5 pounds is a joke after a year. I'm not putting it all on the coaches but they need to change their diet to put on weight. You can't defend at 175. Markus weighs 175 and he's 5'10 for gods sake. I'm very excited to see Chartouny & Morrow defend this year.

ChitownSpaceForRent

You're putting wayyy to much value into raw weight.

I mean hell, take a look a rookie Michael Jordan, doubt he was 190 pounds.

No it isn't simply about weight.  It's about strength...and conditioning.  And also you can only put so much muscle on certain frames.

Who on our team is 6'6 and not at least 190 lbs?

Brendan Bailey: 190
Jamal Cain: 195
Tommy Gardiner: 210
Ike Eke: 220
Sam Hauser: 225
Joey Hauser: 230
Ed Morrow: 235
Theo John: 240
Matt Heldt: 240

The only players on the team under 190 lbs are:
5'10 Cam Marotta
5'11 Markus Howard
6'3 Greg Elliott

This.  All of Elliott, Cain, Bailey have frames that are really hard to add weight/muscle mass.  But, that also is what gives Cain and Elliott the pogo stick athleticism.  They'll be undersized throughout their career from a weight perspective but by senior year will be very effective.

If they're not very effective before their senior year, most likely they'll have transferred out before then.
