Glow can attest that I am not an anal person by any means, but grammar is my thing, and Bilsu, you are driving me crazy with this.

And for the rest of you all,  "it's" means IT IS.  It is not a possessive!!!!!

I will see myself out now.  I need to go get some HRT.

;)

D'Lo Brown

Excited for this game.

Have to imagine we will get even more social media interest/press based on the opponent, too. Nice job, MU.

GGGG

UMBC was overshaddowed by Loyola.  Not sure it really is going to register anywhere unless they beat MU.

The marketing department (if they're worth their weight in geldings) will make sure you remember when it's time to buy tickets.

Disagree. Loyola was the bigger story while they were still alive...but now that it's over, they join the list with LSU, George Mason and VCU as the fourth #11 seed to get to the Final Four and lose.

In contrast, people will remember UMBC as the first #16 seed to beat a #1 seed for as long as they remember Chaminade beating #1 UVa (ie, forever).

Why is it a good buy game?  (for the record - I've got no issue with it, I just don't think it's anything special.)

I didn't say it was anything special. I said it's a good buy game and I'll stick with that.

Better than the usual slate of crappy cupcakes.

Again, real basketball fans know exactly who UMBC was and what they did; more casual fans will be reminded constantly.

Watching them beat Virginia was the highlight of the tournament for me. However, I doubt I would of remember who beat Virginia if you had asked me before this thread.

I do think it is a great opening game. I assume the little point guard from Puerto Rico is now gone. He was something to watch.
Think he might be in PR's international team, Markus is also supposed to eventually join. He's mom is from PR, Butch was the one who gave me the heads up

Lazer is saying that there are a projected crappy cupcake--which equates to a drag on our RPI.  Why is this game better than usual?
At the end of the day, they are still a probable 250+ team.
That is a crappy cupcake.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Typical cupcake but now UMBC has a little notoriety.  Adds a little interest but that is all.

Not sure LSU is in that same category. While a low seed they still have some basketball prestige

I think that this pretty much nails it.  Due to their performance in the tournament, there will be a relatively short time period when they hold additional interest to casual fans before being relegated to being merely the answer to a trivia question.  Fortunately, Marquette gets them right at the very beginning of that period.

But, aside from that spike in interest, they're a typical cupcake buy game.  Their conference RPI is horrible (23rd) and if they're losing a lot of talent, who knows if they're going to return to their single-digit win totals that were the norm before the 2016 season.

It's a perfectly good buy game, with slightly more interest than usual, but there's potential for it to be a real RPI killer.  Home run?  Sounds like hyperbole.

Yep.  They retrieved the UVA's ass before they handed it to them.

Reasonable point. But Loyola still falls in with VCU and GMU when all is said and done. UMBC stands alone in what they did.
