It is also comparing Wright's 8th-11th years as a head coach, to Wojo's 1st-4th.  I don't see anyone saying Wojo = Wright, only that Wright would have been fired by the Scoop critics after going 51-63 in his first four years as a coach.

Me (and others) saying that one of the reasons I'm willing to be patient about Wojo is that even many great coaches, such as Jay Wright, did not light the world on fire early on in their careers is absolutely NOT the same as "Wojo had a mediocre first 4 years, Wright had a mediocre first 4 years, ergo Wojo =Wright." And you are smart enough to know it.

Speaking of things that "are absolutely NOT the same as", Mike, saying that our defense under Wojo is sub par is NOT the same as accusing Wojo of being the worst coach in the history of basketball. Perhaps hyperbole sometimes begets hyperbole.

I very much enjoyed what I saw of the Women's Final Four, which was about the last 10 mins of regulation and OT of the ND-UConn game, and the 4th quarter of the championship game.

A lot of very talented, well-coached, extremely hard-working basketball players.

I didn't want ND to win - I never do - but you have to appreciate how hard they fought for the 2 wins. And the player who made the winning shots in both games, Arike Ogunbowale ... wow! If a guy had done that in both the semis and the final of the men's tournament, he'd go down in history as the greatest clutch performer in college basketball history.

Oh so now it is hofstra. Amazing how people come up with records from VI'll a nova for first 4 years and then switch to hofstra.
Scoop is sure full of opinions on all things Wojo.

Willie, facts are facts. Bitch all you want.  I don't know if Wojo is the man yet.  But I don't know he is NOT the man, either.   The facts are that his record for his first four years is better than Wright's record in his first four years as a head coach and comparable to his first four years at Villanova.  Wright now, Jay is in the discussion for best current college coach.  Wojo is light years from that.
  The question is, can Wojo get there?  Or even near there?  Can Wojo make MU a perennial contender?  I'm not sold yet.  But I am not despairing either.

We didn't set the expectation. KenPom, your most trusted website did. He looked at our roster preseason and said "50th best team in the country." We finished 55th, despite Sam and Greg nursing injuries all season and Haanif transferring a few games in. So while Wojo didn't set the world on fire, I'd say he met expectations.

Hey, Willie, after his first 3 years at Hofstra, Jay and company were making jokes about their future after getting fired by Hofstra.   Other coaches were negative recruiting him over his inevitable firing.

That's cool, Lenny. I did not take yours as a joke. Usually, I'm pretty good at detecting sarcasm, humor, etc, and I didn't get that from your post. But it wouldn't be the first time something went over my bald head.

For the record, and I'm only talking for myself and not others (though others might share this thought process), all I have ever said is that Wojo wouldn't be the first guy to get off to a less-than-stellar start to his career and then go on to be an outstanding coach.

And yes, pointing out the MANY others in that realm - like Wright, K, Lute Olson, Eddie Sutton, etc, etc, etc - is a way of justifying my argument, I freely admit that. I don't blame those who think the opposite for using immediately successful coaches to support their stances, either.

I actually agree exactly with what tower just said. I don't know know if Wojo will ever get there, but I also do not know that Wojo will not ever get there. Those who claim they know - that it is a "fact" that Wojo will never be a good coach - do not know the difference between fact and opinion. I am NOT saying this is you, Lenny.
