For the season... 44 minutes, 21 assists, 0 turnovers.

Including this assist:

Those are crazy assists and turnover numbers.  If he could shoot it a little better he'd have a chance at real minutes.

I reject the idea that Kolek needs to go to another team. Part of that is because the Knicks have been my team since the late 1960s, and part of it is that the Knicks need to make amends for keeping Henry Bibby -- Henry Flippin' Bibby! -- in 1974 and getting rid of Dean Meminger.

More pertinent, though, is I think Kolek has an ally in his corner in Knicks coach Mike Brown. I think his teammates, especially Brunson, like playing with him. And the Garden crowd adores him in the way the fans used to adore Steve Novak, and he is growing his game and his brand in a way he probably couldn't anywhere else.

Brown had this interesting answer when asked the other day about how Kolek needs to improve:

"He's gotta run the team. What I mean by that is, when you watch our games, when he goes on the floor, people get up into his chest when he's trying to run our offense. He can't get off the ball too early, if it's just one guy. He's gotta be able to go by that guy and get the guy off-balance and bring it back out and set our offense up and/or get by and make a play in the paint. He can't let pressure bother him or disrupt our offense at all.

"And then defensively, he's gotta be a pest. He's gotta be nasty, not anything illegal or anything like that, just a guy that people wanna say 'Get off me, get off me,' because he's more than capable of doing that. He's gotta play with some sort of force, particularly for his size."

The ally in Kolek's corner didn't play TK for even one second during the entirety of the NBA Finals.

Sure, Brown likes him. But if all of the Knicks' guards are healthy, there is no PT for TK, except in garbage time. Period.

So if Kolek is to actually advance his career - absent other Knicks guards getting traded or seriously injured - he needs to go elsewhere. It's not complicated. And it sure doesn't have anything to do with Henry Bibby.

I think Miami would be ideal for him.

Kolek's issue in NY will be his issue anywhere else. Defense and scoring ability.

Absolutely. But there are teams that don't have as big of a backcourt logjam.

When he got to play decent minutes last season, he did A-OK and the Knicks won plenty. He can have a role ... if a team has minutes available.

TK's situation is a classic NBA case of the team playing the contracts and not the player.  If they ever want to move the contracts of the people playing ahead of him, those players need minutes.  Otherwise they have no value.  There is of course a small portion of the situation that's about performance, but his performance would need to be Jordan-esque to jump ahead of everyone else on that roster who can play the 1 or the 2.

As much as I think he's an almost perfect Brunson back-up, he's probably better off elsewhere.

Front offices aren't dumb. They don't need to see players play to move contracts. Most of the reason is just matching up salaries in a trade.

Wasted scholarship.  Bring him off the bench and give Sean Jones the keys.

Can't believe how far Kolek has come since birth.

I second this - put him with a total alpha big man scorer who will benefit hugely from being set up well. He could really allow Miami to get the max out Giannis which would mitigate Kolek's weaknesses..  Giannis is a true (pass first) point guard's dream imo..

Not enough 3-point shooters, and unfortunately TK wouldn't help that.

Obviously, the Heat need to sign Markus Howard too.  Duh!

I would argue he is a serviceable 3 point shooter. He just needs more reps. He is shooting 43% from 3 this year, and shot 37% (I think) last year.

That could be true. I'd like to see him get the chance to show it somewhere he'd be part of a regular rotation.
