The Hornets cut DJ Carton but retained his G League rights, so he could still play for their Greensboro entry in that league.
The G League would be a good landing spot for DJ.  He can work on the skills he will need to move up.

ESPN's 2022 draft top 100 has Justin Lewis at #41:

https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/32375218/2022-nba-draft-top-100-stock-watch-moved-pro-days

I get that this season will be unpredictable, and we don't have one particular go-to scorer, but the pieces are there to really surprise the league.

FWIW, Dawson Garcia is #70 on this list.

Not rooting against Garcia in life but would genuinely love to see Justin skyrocket past him on the national level.

Definitely agree - I have no ill will toward DG.  I really just found the comparison interesting because I think many people, even on this board, would have had the inverse.  Seems like the experts have been seeing things in Lewis this summer that has surprised them.

Scouts were on him pre-injury last year. He's got the physical gifts to have a long NBA career. Can his defense/jumper improve enough to get him there?

If Justin is a mid second round pick this team should dance. He’s certainly not getting drafted on his defense. So that means we’ll have an alpha on offense and the defense should be solid.

Kind of MU NBA related....Zaire Wade is signing with the G League to play for Utah's affiliate.

Forgot D-Wade had an ownership stake. Is he bypassing college?

yes. I guess he didn't sign with anyone after last season and per ESPN (76, 3 star rating) was last at Brewster Academy. He had offers from DePaul, URI, Nebraska, and Toledo (MU connection with Coach K).

It's not like he needs the money so why not take advantage of family connections and play pro?

Not to mention he'll be 20 years old in February.  He was originally a 2020 recruit, I believe, then reclassified to 2021, and is now several months into the academic year.

The kid is good at the sport.

Still strikes as bizarre that 30% of Scoop wanted to disown any association with him and constantly disparaged him during the latter half of his MU career.

Or in the seven years of Wojo, Markus is the only favorable memory that will stick with us. Everything else was meh.

Lewis's tip-in against the Badgers will stick with me too.

Beating Wisconsin a few times.  And beating number one Villanova.

But,  the lack of postseason success and our team mostly getting worse as the seasons went along we’re damning.

Markus is a great representative of MU.  I wish him nothing but the best.

The Nova win was great for the students. What I remember is losing 4 out of the next five to middling to poor teams.

Lewis tip in was exciting. Tempered by three straight home BE blow outs to start conference.

Ellenson at Madison. Sam at Creighton or GU. Garcia versus UNC. Same tempered footnote as what came next to build on. The post-season blowouts. Wojo was a momentum and memory killer.

Many will argue that Markus was tempered by Hausergate. To me, there was excitement every time MH laced them up. You didn’t know what else incredible we would see. That Buffalo performance was special and MU actually built on it. That is a lasting memory.

As usual, spot on Doc.

That Buffalo game was my favorite game of the Wojo era. Two really good teams, a soaked crowd on a Friday night, and an all-time great performance from Markus.
